Sri Venkateshwar Lodge or Hotel Alka
I'll be spending a few days in Varanasi in December and I am trying to determine where to stay. A friend recommended Hotel Ganges View, but (based on what I've read) I leaning towards Sri Venkateshwar Lodge or Hotel Alka. I've read that the staff at Hotel Alka can be rude, but it has a great view. Sri Venkateshwar Lodge is a quiet non touristy place but isn't on the ghats (does that really matter?). For what it's worth I'll be a solo female traveller. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Sri Venkanteswar is only 5 minutes from the ghat; I've never stayed there but it seemed okay the last time I was in Varanasi, which admittedly was many years ago.
