Need to find a hotel in Varanasi
I'm travelling to Varanasi in early December and am trying to find a nice hotel near town for 2,900 Rupees and below. I've looked into Palace on the Ganges but not sure if this is a good place or not. Anyone who has any info about a good place to stay that is clean, nice and airy drop me a line. Thanks.

Ajayz Guest House, Rana Ghat
Its just a 5 minute walk from the mainghat. Its lovely, try to get a room in the tower, overlooking the Ganges, I had my own balcony, its amaaaaaaaazing. Price was 500 Rupees a night (March 2005)
Can't find my pics at the moment, but have a look here http://www.moxon.net/india/varanasi.html |

Hi, Steve. I like the the Ganges View Hotel at Assi Ghat, which is practically next-door to the Palace on Ganges. It a family-run place, and it occupies a good part of the family's large home. Here's the address: B 1/163 Assi Ghat, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh 221 005, India
It's one of the places featured in the "Special Places to Stay" books. See the website here: http://www.specialplacestostay.com/s...FileID=ind1165 There are also some really bad-quality photos of it posted on this site here - click on "Candid traveler photos": http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...r_Pradesh.html And here's the travel journal of some guy who stayed there and like it: http://www.heartspace.org/travel/varanasi1.html The Palace on Ganges looks very posh from the outside and also from its website and I'm sure it's nice. But the Ganges View Hotel was extremely pleasant and interesting, and I definitely plan to stay there again next time I go to Varanasi. |

Hi,
Alka and Ganpati are good hotels, on the river Ganges. Also Assi Ghat area is more shanti, quiet and relaxing than the center, Dashawmedh. The new hotel Reshmi Guest House has deluxe rooms starting from 1500 rupies, up to 4000. It is placed before the Alka, facing the river too, and it has a roof top restaurant also. I spent a month this summer in the Ganges View (and five more months in a less fancy place) . . . the Ganges View is amazing. Great location, great management, and duringg the season - weekly musci/art/dance programs. I couldn't have wanted more. And if you really can spend 2000+ Rs/night, you can geet their best room. Have fun in Varanasi. Great place.
