Lassi shops - Varanasi
Lassi shops - Varanasi
I've corrupted my Lonely Planet download which contained Varanasi in a chapter.
Can anyone check for me the name of the LP highly recommended lassi shop in the city? Think it was called something like 'Blue Lassi' but that sounds a bit daft. I would really like to try some this upcoming visit, well 5 days there without trying it once would be a sin surely
Address too if possible.
Thank you!

Hi Spud,
I just checked my book of LP but cannot find what you are talking about.
Try the Haifa Hotel at Assi Ghat for lassi.

Assi ghat is quite a long way from where Spud intends to stay.
I dont down load anything but buy a LP and cut out the relevant chapters.
Fine as long as you dont loose them.
Lassi should be fine as long as the place looks clean, check the loos for confirmation. NO ICE ALSO, tho when in Udiapur this spring I had iced drinks as the fellow bought in ice cubes, shop made not from the block of ice trailed through the streets in a gunny bag.

Nill illigitimi carborundum There is indeed a Blue Lassi shop in Varanasi, its situated in the bazaar away from the Ghats...keep looking you'll find it.Good luck!
Few locals told me that the most famous lassi shop was somewhere around Mani-Karnika ghat (probably the market from where a narrow path cuts towards the ghat).
Otherwise, I saw quite few lassi shops in Bengali tola area (adjoining Dasashwamedh). And there was a lassi shop (somewhere near Monalisa cafe if i remember correctly ) with a long list of flavored lassi's on offering. May be this is the shop you are looking for.

Hi Spud!!
There are a lot of lassi shops at Godowlia area. But the best of them all is named as, 'Baba Thandai Ghar' which is at Chowk area towards the right side of the road, when you are coming from Godowlia towards Chowk. Bansphatak is the name of the specific area to be precised.
Ask anyone, and you'll be guided to it.
Enjoy the Lassi, but minus Bhaang

Everything is funny, as long as it's happening to someone else!!
The Blue Lassi shop very much exists (or did in February) and that is the one listed in LP. I had a guide take me there - I would never find it again. It is back from Manikarnkia Ghat, it's in one of those winding lanes that fit three people abreast. Good luck.
Thank you everyone.
I got a chance to visit WHSmiths today and they had the most recent edition of LP.
They do indeed highly recommend a shop called Blue Lassi I can't remmember exactly what they said but recall 'making the creamiest, freshest fruit filled lassi for over 70 years' Obviously a must visit.
Thank you fsg too - I'll try to remember 'no ice!'

In my edition it has as follows:
"DON'T MISS
No 1 lassi in all Varanasi
Your long, thirsty search for the best lassi in town is over. Look no further that Blue Lassi, a tiny hole-in-the-wall yoghurt shop that been churning out the freshest, creamiest, fruit-filled lassis for more than 70 years. The grandson of the original owner still works here, sitting by his lassi-mixing cauldron in front of a small room with wooden benches for customerss and walls plastered with messages from happy drinkers; most of whom seem to be Korean. All four flavours - plain, banana, apple and mango - are delicious (it's worth coming here four times to try them all!), but we think the apple one, flecked with fresh apple shreds, just about tops the bunch."
My recollection is that there were more than four to choose from; and also, there is free wi-fi.

Saw few days back on a travel channel...Blue Lassi shop is the one near Mani Karnika ghat. It would be easily identifiable by its blue color

Blue Lassi Shop does seem to be a popular one, indeed!

The address from this link seems to be CK.12/1 Kachauri Gali, (near burning ghat) Chowk, Varanasi

Yes Indeed.I saw this shop while walking through Varanasi lanes. If I remember correctly, it was on a corner from where a narrow path cuts towards Mani Karnika (the burning ghat). I do not like lassi that's why did not pay a visit to the shop
