How many days in Varanasi?

Hi - first time visitors to India and planning to visit Varanasi in mid-June. We'll be there for the beginning of the Ganga festival on the 13th. Wondering how many days we should allot from our trip for Varanasi to have a comfortable time. Are 3-4 days adequate? We're interested in spiritual / cultural activities, less so historical / architectural tours.

Three to four days are ideal for Varanasi, if you want to explore this oldest city of the world, said to be situated on the trident of Lord Shiva according to the Hindu Muythology, even one life is not enough. Some of the international tourists spend months here.

some love it, some totally dislike it, but Varanasi never fails to leave a big impression! 3-4 days is a good intro.

It's impossible to offer proper guidance.

For some visitors, 3-4 days would not be anything like enough. For others, it would be 3 days too many. Whichever group you find you fall into, though, it will be quite an experience.

373 days . . .

and counting . . . that's how long I've spent there . . . but most of the posters offer saner advice . . . 3/4 days is a good intro . . . I started with a week . . . then added two six month trips after that . . . and still want more . . .
