Katy, We love to help here at indiamike, but we hate to feel like an automated machine, we're human, and like to help other humans, but we like to feel the info we give is useful.Allow us to feel good, to feel useful, to feel human, give some details to allow us to improve your trip, let us answer the questions you wouldn't think of asking.
Tell us about your plans, who you're travelling with, what you want from the trip, how long you have, what's your budget and your interests.
The problem with the kind of questions you're asking is......you'll get the answers, and the answers to such general questions will rarely get you the best advice.
I can think of at least a dozen different exciting ways to get from Varanasi to Kerala (and I've done a couple of them myself), but none of these ideas fit as a reply to your questions, and the number of times I've typed very detailed replies on indiamike, only to find I'd completely wasted my time, easily runs into the hundreds.
Varanasi-Kerala (what part of Kerala?) takes 50 hours by train (and only runs once a week), and has an awful arrival time, I could tell you a route that would only take 55 hours (and runs daily), but would get you a 7 hour break near a world heritage site, and a much better arrival time in Kerala., but that's not the question your asking.
.

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?
He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

katyteee,
I think I understand steven's frustration in dealing with your question.
He is perhaps unaware of your earlier thread on your fuller itinerary which I think is misplaced in the Delhi City Forum here. Being an interfering old busy-body
, I will alert the mods to see if they think your question should be moved to a more appropriate forum, say the forum on India Travel Itinerary Advice here.
You'd probably be better served by the IndiaMike community at this stage of your planning if you stuck to your one big itinerary question and kept it in one place.

>waves hand franticly< I want to know!!! Tell me!! I am traveling with my boyfriend, on a shoestring, by the time we reach Varanasi we should have had a little jaunt around Rajastan, and from Varanasi we want to work our way down to Ponucherry where we're volunteering, hopefully via Hampi and Gokarana (or some other low-key beach) and it would be lovley to see a bit of Kerala... I also just found out about the Ellora caves and they look AMAZING...
Very confused by the train routes etc as to how to get to the South at all from Varanasi
But as I said, weve got a rather limited budget, and I know Im not going to see everything! We were originally planning to take something like £2000, which has now shrunk to about £700, for a couple of months backpacking and a month volunteering/staying with a friend.. I was looking forward to living like a queen, but have now come round to the idea that its just as fun and much more interesting to rough it, and live like a normal indian rather than a wealthy tourist!
so yes, hope thats personal enough
, nice to meet you, please tell me your travel route secrets! Similar Threads
