Day Trip to Varanasi

Hello,
I have limited time and wanted to go to Varanasi for the day. Would it be doable to take the 8:35 AM train from Delhi arriving at 8:50 AM spend the day there, then take the night train, 7:15PM arriving Delhi the next morning. I know I should spend more time there but with what I wrote, would anyone recommend?
Thanks,
Gordon

That'll give you too small a window to peep into Varanasi.

But if that's the only possibility, do it.

I hope you'll travel by at least III AC.

I travelled from Delhi to Varanasi in March.I flew with kingfisher, just over an hour and about£110.Well worth it and if you did the same you would be able to stay a little longer.

I don't really think the one day is enough,I was there for six and felt that I was just touching the surface in that time.
Its a fascinating city and one that I hope to return to one day.

My advice would be if you cant stay longer then perhaps go there next time.
Happy travels.Laney

I have watched the sunrise from Asi Ghat over 380 times, and still want more. While we all certainly agree that a day is not enough time, I'd still go, but am sorry that you'll miss both sunset and sunrise, or either one - both my absolute favorite times of day in Varanasi. But if a day is what you have, still plenty of time to get lost in the narrow lanes of the old city, take a walk by/sit by, the river, to fend off (or not) the massuesses (sp?) at Dashawamedh Ghat . . . with a day, you'll be able to see the surface, perhaps touch it, but the longer you stay, the longer it can touch your surface, dig into you a little deeper . . . amazing place.
