I'll be in Varanasi during Diwali for 4 days. Other than the usually tourist stuff, any suggestions on activities/performance related to art and music?

but art and music ARE touristy stuff . . .
You might head to the Ganges View Hotel, at Asi Ghat. They usually have very a very good selection of art and/or music during the high season. There's also a nice little music shop - Music Melody House - just a five minute walk up the street from the Ganges View. Nice guys in there. They usually have or know of several musical get-togethers every week.
