Hmm. Hard to say - depends what you're looking for, of course.
I spent 3 nights there last February - my first visit to India, my first week. It was bookable via email, which was helpful for me, and I found it reasonably priced, reasonably comfortable, clean etc etc. Dining room a bit on the dark side, but food good (to my taste, anyway). The staff were really helpful for this slightly bewildered middle-aged solo female Brit. A few stairs to get up and down, if that's an issue. No complaints. If I go back to Varanasi again, I'll stay elsewhere, but for the variety (and a better view), not because there was a problem with Hotel Divya. (Except for one of the drivers they found for me - who picked me up from the airport, and never stopped talking, despite all my attempts to shut him up. I thought I was quite skilled at shutting people up - he was in a different league. Alas, despite a request for someone else, he was also the one who drove me to Sarnath a couple of days later - via his uncle's sari shop. Well, via the outside of the shop. I refused to budge from the car. I doubt you would find the same problem!) |

Hello, yes we stayed at the Hotel Divya at Assi Ghat in March 2008 and found it comfortable and very good value. There was no view at all but we were close by to the ghat and it is a very well situated area to stay in. I would stay there again, even though I was horribly ill most of the time (through no fault of the hotel I hasten to add) and I don't have a good memory of my time there. The staff were very helpful and the boat ride they organized for us and a few other people staying in the hotel was excellent, one of the highlights. We walked from there all along the river to the centre of town. If you want to be in where everything is happening you might want to choose somewhere else. But then again, Assi Ghat is great for concerts and it is close to the University.
You might want to also take a look at this thread: assi ghat? Last edited by theyyamdancer : Jan 30th, 2009 at 22:28. Reason: added a link |

I can't say I've stayed at the Divya hotel (though I'm considering staying at Assi ghat on my visit in Feb) however if it's as chaotic and badly organised as its website then I'd steer clear.
