Agreed, I'm aware of the situation... Of course it's not getting any better, on the contrary. With the amount of rainfall from the first few days of May, until the present, I was amazed to see the other day how very low Tehri lake was. Where did it all go?

I'm not the pessimistic type but you can't help but think aloud how Mussoorie, Almora, Delhi and so on will make it through a prolonged drought, which given the duality of all things is guaranteed to occur at some point in time.

Management REFORM of our natural resources is so long overdue that we may have created an irreversible situation where the scale of such reform becomes too huge to implement.... meanwhile Uma Bharti camped on Bhagirathi kinare and thumbs were twiddled in puja and bullshit spouted about glorious Ganga's regenerative power to solve all.... When we rid ourselves of the superstition, perhaps...

There was a report a decade ago that 25% of monsoon rain disappears underground into ancient aquifers.

I also share the same thoughts and liking. A place where it snows a lot, has a few fresh water bodies, orchards of apple, almonds, plums etc is an ideal place for me to settle for life.

Uttarkhand Himalayas are in bad shape. I think Himachal is no better (Today: Rock slide in Kulu).

hi aroon ji
read your thread.
got the mix feeling. little impressed, little depressed. seems like standing in desert but full of enthusiasm. anyways...
let me tell you about me. i was resident of old tehri , then shifted to new tehri and then to rishikesh and finally to majri- near doiwala, dehradun
what i felt, living in hills near to plains is quite easier. say- new tehri. its just 70 kms from rishikesh (railway station) 110 km from capital, 85 kms from airport. education is good there. All saints convent school, NTIS, BGS are name of few good schools.
medical facility is quite OK here. now you may ask why i shifted from new tehri to rishikesh?
the answer is , i left new tehri in 2012. before that i was not satisfied with medical facilities there. my son (now 12) then required medical assistance very much. my parents were already in rishikesh. lots of reasons.
my opinion-why don't u visit new tehri once before taking any decision. and after all you are final person to decide. if required any help ,please feel free to contact me
thanks dear
