Walking up to Nainital...?

anyone know if there's a trail of some sort from Kathgodam or thereabouts upto Nainital?

Not that I know of. I once did it from Jyolikot ages ago - prompted by the landslide that had blocked the traffic. That wasn't too bad - but I do not remember a lot of trails until one was fairly close to Nainital.
