Uttarakhand bus time table

There are no Garhwal buses operating from K Gate as of even date because it's under renovation (all Garhwal buses leave from there otherwise, except one). Had it been in service, you would have had to look far and wide for a Garhwal bus at AV, without success. FYI, under normal circs only Kumaon buses leave from AV (plus the a.m. exception).




One ordinary bus of Himachal RTC operates Haridwar-Manali (no doubt via Kullu). It'll be a killer though.

DW, Sir I'm not talking about the govt. buses.Am talking about the private buses that still run from there, though few.The bookings are done by one Hari Travels,Shop No.4-5 Subway,Parshwanath Metro Mall,Kashmere Gate Metro Stn., whose office I visited personally for booking the bus, though I finally booked from Anand Vihar only.Anyway,the bus problem is over for me permanently I hope.Am not used to travel by buses or volvos either,and prefer the railways most definitely.

Well Adithya,in my opinion, the following mode of transport would be the least-uncomfortable (probably DW knows of the one which could be the most comfortable lol).

Catch the 12056 Dehradun-New Delhi Janshatabdi that leaves Haridwar Railway Station at around 6.15 am and arrives at New Delhi Jn at 11.15 am on all days of the week. From New Delhi Jn, all that you have to do is to reach the Chanderlok Building, Janpath (Connaught Place) office of Himachal Tourism which is just a kilometre or two away from the New Delhi Railway Station (from the Paharganj side.) Their volvo to Manali runs every evening at 5 pm I think (check with the Himachal Tourism office for full details or from their official website). U would be in Manali next morning, from where you have to catch a local bus or some alternate transport upto Kulu.

My point was that all buses, private or govt, generally leave from the same terminus depending on where they are going. Because ISBT K Gate is non-operational, all buses for Garhwal are leaving from AV. Was it your understanding that this particular private service always leaves from AV, even when KG was/will be operational?

"Best" way is certainly the long way by train. There are two trains from Laksar Junction (south of Haridwar) to Chandigarh. From there approx 7 hours by bus to Kullu.

Why not just get off at Kullu, considering the Manali bus has to pass through?

I don't have that much time.. As i am going for a festival in kullu and I need to reach soon as possible.. On 16th am coming back from VOF, I need to be in kullu by 17th. Else I will miss it.
I think that bus is the only option :-(..

Spot on there.I haven't travelled through Himachal of late, so I missed out that Kulu comes before Manali.Oops, what a faux pas that by me lol.



Well, can't vouch, but I guess so. My feeling was that some buses (may be more than some) start from the KG area, as many passengers (like me) would find it more comfortable in reaching KG than AV. Besides, a number of travellers/tourists from the Paharganj/Chandni Chowk booking places would find it comfortable to board the bus from somewhere near rather than from AV.

Yes, my understanding was that this particular service leaves/ will leave from the AV area permanently, as there was enough space for parking the buses there. But you never know, if passengers are more comfortable in boarding the buses from KG, then they too may have to revert to KG.My feeling though was that the AV-plan for Uttarkhand has come to stay and shall now become a permanent feature, and probably all buses,albeit an odd one or two aside,will henceforth leave from AV for destinations in Uttarkhand, both Kumaon and Garhwal.

Yup, I too think that's his best bet, rather than come all the way from Haridwar to Delhi by train so as to catch the Manali-bound volvo from Chanderlok Building. But from Chandigarh at the time of the day/night he reaches there, I doubt as to whether he gets anything more than a Deluxe bus at best, and he has to hurry and book his seat (if not already full), else check into a hotel in Chandigarh for the night lol. Oh, certainly not - govt buses to Garhwal will revert to KG once it's ready.

Oh, this bit of news would have been excellent for me, had I been a traveller by buses/volvos.

BTW, why have they shifted out some trains (and that too the Shatabdi's) to the AV Rly Stn I wonder (12040 Kathgodam Shatabdi for example). Hope this train reverts to DLI, NDLS or NZM stations as its starting point.To start with, the mail/passenger trains could have started from AV....not the Rajdhani's and the Shatabdi's by any means.

So that ANVT has train services at all .

The 12040 is a new train, first I've heard of it. I think there's no chance of it being shifted.

There was a report in the local newspapers of Uttarakhand regarding the start of this train from old delhi from 25th May onwards but nothing happened since then.

In that case, we need to keep watch as timings of certain trains and introduction of certain other new trains as per the Railway Budget 2012 are being changed/altered/introduced w.e.f. 01 July 2012, and the timing and route schedule should be available shortly from the Indian Railway website.

I read your posts and was impressed with your knowledge about Uttarakhand and your detailed travel routes.

I along with my wife are planning to visit Nainital, Corbett Park, Almora, Kausani from 3rd to 7th August2012. Then we want to go to Badrinath via Gwaldham, karnapryag, joshimath etc. As you have travelled by bus, can you guide us following.

1. Will we get direct bus from ainital (or Haldwani) to Karnaprayag and further. What approx will be its starting time and travel time.
2. Alternatively, can we get some bus from Kausani to Karna prayag. If we do not get bus then shared jeep are manageable or not with luggage. Is it very uncomfortable. We both are senior citizens.

Your advise will be very valuable

1) You can get transport at Haldwani or Nainital for Gwaldam. Change there for Karnprayag.

2) A.m. transport will go via Kausani.
