Previously the name was Uttaranchal, but now it has been changed to Uttarakhand.

@ raju,capt.Mahajan
thanx for quick reply. If possible for the whole state of uttarakhand. Because i am planning to set out for a 2 months trip to uttarakhand. primarily my mode of transportation will be local state roadways(uttarakhand roadways) buses. Mainly i will be travelling more in the kumaon region and little bit of garhwal. probably 5-6weeks in kumaon and 2-3weeks in garhwal. so it will be greatful if i get a full timetable of uttarakhand roadways. for example....almora-bageshwar, bageshwar-munsiyari, munsiyari-kausani, kausani-goaldam.....nainital-lansdown, lansdown-pauri, pauri-khirsu...like these........

I doubt whether any such timetable is really available. The locals and hotel people at every spot must be able to guide.
During our recent tour to Kumayon in March 08, we found some share jeeps are plying on some routes. But I don't know how much dependable they are and whether they follow any timetable.

But one question I cannot but ask you - how do u manage so many days' leave ? I'm jealous !

dt, UA Transport Corp (UTC) does not have it's timetable online. You'll be very lucky to find a printed copy too. If you are passing thru Dehradun I can suggest to enquire at the ISBT for one.

Have you tried this thread: Online bus ticket reservation sites ? You'll realize India has zillions of bus companies and their online presence leaves a lot to be desired so far, so that list is far from conclusive.

I feel kind of funny telling you this as a foreigner, but anyway I think with buses it's still very much a matter of figure it out on the ground.

Dear Machadinha,
it doesnot matter whether you are the national of that country or a foreigner. Experience matters. I will certainly go through you link. But probably i feel i have stated categoricaly that i am only looking for timetable of uttarakhand roadways(state government buses). I know there are plenty of private bus companies. and i dont expect their time table.

Dear Dream Traveller,
As I have travelled very frequently in the Gharwal and Kumayon regioun I can give you cetain tips.
In Gharwal all at least most busses are operated by an Union (GMOU) Gharwal Mamdal (bus) Owners Union. Apart from that is another bus operator which is very famous because of the story going with it. These are the Bhu (in Hindi) Ha (in Hindi) the full form standing for Bhuk Hartal. As the story goes the purohits of Maggu (Where Tungnath is worshiped during the winter months) went on a Bhuk Hartal (hunger strike) to bring the bus on that route. I do not know the outcome of that hunger strike (whether the purohits lived or died)but the bus was started on that route hence as a respect or honor the bus union is named as Bhu Ha or Bhuk Hartal. GMOU buses start from Rishikesh and Hardwar.

From Hardwar the buses goes to Gourikund for Kedarnath ,5.30 amd 6.00 am ex Harwar) Gangotri (5.15 am ex Hardwar), Badrinath (5.00 am ex Harwar)
If you have to come to Garwal from Kumayon through the mountains then the only link is through Gwaldham, which is about 65 kilometes from Karnaprayag along the Pindar. There are bus services from Gwaldham and also jeeps are plying on this route. In the mornings buses are available but as the day goes by the jeepsare the only means and they are very dicy. Hope Step and Jump and you will surely reach Karnaprayag.
Buses for unknown places or place where there is not much tourist attraction also leaves from, Hardwar and Rishikesh, mostly from Rihikesh. Please note that buses for Gourikund , Gangotri and Badrinath leaves from Hardwar but if you want to go to Yamunotri then you have to get the bus from Rishikesh..
In Kumayon the union is known as KMOU full form Kumayon Mandal (Bus)Owners Union. All there start from Haldiwani in the plains not Khatgodam.
Apart from these two bus operators there is the state bus also which has a timetable but it does not cater to all the tourist places.
Ex Hardwar:
Badrinath 5.00am
Gangotri 5.15am
Gourikund 5.30 and 6.00am
Gwaldham 3.00am
Ghansali 6.00am
Better to go and ask at the place of travel like Rishikesh and Hardwar. Buses go from Kedarnath to Badrinath also and vice verse also from Gangotri.
Happy traveling, Remember all places are connected with Jeeps now.

Dear amitava,
thanx for the information. from your post what i understand union's buses and state government roadways buses are different. Probably Union's buses are more popular and frequent. Is it the case? can you give a little more detail information about bus timings specially in the route like almora-bageshwar, almora-jogeshwar, almora-gwaldam, almora-munsiyari and probably what could be the approx sharejeep fare for these routes....if they are at all?

I think, Bhukh Hartal is not the name of the bus operator. The bus is operated by GMOU but named as Bhukh Hartal for the reason given by you. The Bhuk Hartal bus starts from Gourikund at 05.30 a.m. and goes to Badrinath in the evening via Kund - Ukhimath - Chopta - Mandal - Gopeshwar and joins the Badrinath route at Chamoli. The return journey starts from Badrinath at around 05.30 a.m. and reaches Gourikund in the evening. This bus is very convenient for the locals of Ukhimath-Chopta-Mandal region for going both towards Badrinath and Kedarnath. In fact, this bus route is the life line for them.

Apart from locals, this bus is also convenient for those travellers/trekkers who wish to cover Deoria Tal (via Sari village), Chopta, Tungnath and Rudranath (via Mandal).
