Trip to chopta and Tunganath

Planning for a trip to chopta and Tunganath..
Rough itinery would be as follows:
1) Reaching Haridwar evening (around diwali)
2) Leaving Next day for Chopta by pvt taxi..reach chopta in evening and camp
3) Next day Trek to tunganath..if possible to chandrashila..and back to chopta and camp
4) Next day Back to haridwar..

So in a nutshell..its a three day trip..is it feasible?..how is the trek to tunganath and then to chandrashila and back..is it possible in a day..
Also can i devariyatal too in the above plan without extending my number of days?

How is staying options at chopta and what is there to see at chopta?

Globetrotter02, Welcome to IM!

I'm no expert for what you're asking - but I'm sure someone will respond quickly. Till such time, have a look at the bottom of this page/thread and you'll see a section named "SIMILAR THREADS". I just saw that it has a collection of related threads, which should help you.

Best wishes for your plan!

P.S. Googled for Chopta/Tunganath and got this TripAdvisor link, seems quite detailed - and one of the posts refer back to an IndiaMike threads collection, so good for you!

1. Dont expect luxury in this area. All you'll get are basic accomodations called chattis. No prebooking required, you should get a place to stay once you reach.
2. I wont say its impossible, but its unlikely. Considering the fact that Chopta to Tung is a 4km steep ascent (8 km to and fro) and Sari to Deoria is another 3km moderately steep climb. Seems to be a little too optimistic plan. I would suggest you not to try this.
3.Whatever you do- Chopta-Tunganath-Chandrashila or Chopta-Tunganath-Deoriatal, you need at least a couple of days. Tunganath to Chandrashila is quite a steep climb, and is best known for the sunrise views. If you plan to go to Chandrashila, then it is highly reccomendable that you set for it early in the morning, and watch the sunrise. If viewing peaks is your preference, Chandrashila wins by a vast majority as compared to Deoria tal.
4. Depends on your wife's ability to trek. You do get mules from Chopta to Tunganath, but not till Chandrashila. However, I have seen many ladies underatke the trek, and accomplish it successfully. Take short breaks during your trek, the view of the Garhwal peaks will do the rest to rejuvinate you.
Regards,
Sagarneel.

Rightly said by Sagarneel....

Chopta - Tungnath - Deoria tal in a day is well almost impossible. Even Chandrashila may be difficult, you should plan for Chopta - Tungnath only, with your wife around it would be good not to tke too much strain and enjoy the scenery...

Very soon, snowing will also start there.....

P.S. - There are no guest houses at Chopta small or large. Mayadeep Resort is a choice but it's not exactly in Chopta. At Chopta proper only staying options are Dhabas.

Spot on! Mayadeep resort stands in Duggalbhita, some 6 km from Chopta. One more info- the Tunganath temple closes shortly after Diwali, hence the dhabas around Tunganath and Chopta shut down for obvious reasons. Plan your trip accordingly!

Agreed that Chopta Tungnath - Deoria is impossible but I would say Chopta-Tungnath-Chandrashila is doable. If the skies are clear I think a visit to Chandrashila is very rewarding

yeah..thx..agree to that chopta - tunganath - deoriya is impossible..will stick to chopta - t'nath - chopta (c'shila if possible) on day 1. Sari - Deoriya - Sari - Rudraprayag (or whatever place on way back to Haridwar) on next day.

I will keep in mind the closing dates and book accordingly..Negi of Reflexion (deoriya) seems to have a boarding place at chopta..should contact him..

GT, I want you to have a look at my experience.
http://karnail.blogspot.com/2009/07/...ndershila.html

If you are determined, it is possible:
Day1: Leave Hardwar early, reach Chopta around 3-00 PM, Don't stay here Trek to Tungnath, sleep.
Day2: Rise early, reach Chandershila for sunrise, Climb down reach Chopta around 10 AM and reach Sari, decide here if you can go up to Deoriya Taal.

* You need to reach Tungnath (for sunrise Chandershila).
* After returning from Chandershila generally you will need to descent to Chopta.

Well as they say "Impossible is nothing" but the idea of treks for me to slowdown a bit and not to rush around too much and that is what I always suggest to people.
