Trip to Binsar/Munsiyari/Chakouri in Mid Jan'10

Hi Everybody!

I am a new comer into this forum.

I am planning to visit Binsar/Munsiyari/Chakouri in mid January'10 with my family including my 3yr. daughter.

If we get required protection for winter, will it be difficult to visit there at that time? Shall we miss the beauty?

Please suggest.

Giving thaks in advance.

Souvik

I am just back in Trivandrum in 1 piece from my trip to Delhi-Nainital-Binsar-Munsiyari-Kausani-Lansdowne-Delhi.
Binsar - we stayed at Khali estate. It was perfect for my taste and would recommend it to anyone interested in staying at a peaceful location without any creature comforts like telephone(bsnl mobile works sometimes), tv, satellite channels...
Musniyari - We were there for 2 days and it is awesome if you are lucky to get the views. 1 day it rained on us and it was quite cold and with no views and confined to our rooms was one of the dullest of my life. 2nd day it stooped raining and the view just took away all the dullness and it was like waking up into a garden of flowers from a nightmare. In january i believe it would be very cold and you would need thick woollen for survival and should be involved in activities as much as possible to keep the body temperature high. On the day that it rained, only person who was not feeling the cold was my 2.5 year old daughter who was running around the room playing to herself and me and my wife was shivering after putting all the clothes we had...

You can visit all these places without any problems unless there is heavy snowfall in which case few stretches of the roads may be closed for some time. However, I did not get what you want to really ask. How will you miss the beauty if you get required protection from winter .. are you planning to spend the whole stay in a closed room with heater switched on to avoid cold?

I am not saying that. I mean I am going there in off-season. I thought I might miss some beauty which can be seen in best visiting time.

Every season has its own charm. The best part about this time is minimal tourists and vehicles on roads, great discounts etc. And if you happen to see snowfall, all the better

The snow is there in first half of Jan and you will have a good time. While travel try to leave early in the morning, to avoid being stuck midway due to road blocks.. should have enough time in hand to take alternate route or return to base.

Hey all,

Its kind of a thanks to all the people who hate my traveling to the Himalayas that I have fractured my leg.But nevertheless, spirits are moving up again and are gaining pace.
Hence its going to be a trip in mid or late January if the doc permits,(but who is going to listen to him,let the plaster get off).So the places haunting at the moment are Sitlakhet,Binsar,Chakouri and Munsiyari if time permits and since it's January so no trekking(also leg constraint).
So friends,I need help-suggest me a route as I'am going to travel through local means and moreover its going to be a Thursday night leaving Delhi and Monday morning back.
I guess I have to chalk out Munsiyari from my list but lets see and to my surprise if I hire a cab for the same purpose,is it doable?
So out of these 4 or lets say 3,which places are worth a night halt?If I wish to chalk out 1 place, which one should I?

Thanks in advance-luv u all IM'S for the help everytime

Kumaon trip

Just read yr message, could not help but post some comments. The weather you are worried about is not so bad, yes there will be some cold but one big jacket will suffice. For all my visits to the Kumaon i always book the KMVN guest houses and would advice you to do so. Unless you like something * like then its different. The relatively close up views of the perpetually snow clad Great Himalayan mountain range is truely mind blowing. The 300 km line up stretches and includes some celebrated giants like Kamet, Mana, Gauri parbat, hathi parbat, Nanda devi etc etc. The Kalmatia Sangam himalaya resort is undoubtedly the most stylish property in the region. It will cost you around 14K to 20K all inclusive.
The Zara resort or the Wayfarer Mountain retreat at Munsiyari are quiet good to give a try.
Get some information about Abbott Mount. its about 36 km from Pancheswar on the Kali river. Hope you must be a bong and the view of the snow clad place will surely remind you of some place in Europe. Another place to keep in mind is Kausani, which gives the flavour of Darjeeling in Kumaon, unless if you have already visited.
Kumaon in winter can be compared to some of the European destinations and its really worth a visit without worrying too much about anything else....
