Trek to Vasuki Taal via Tapovan and Nandanvan

Dear All,
I wish to trek to Vasuki Taal via Tapovan and Nandanvan in the first week of October, 2009 with my wife and son (age 20 years). We had gone upto Tapovan in 2007. Can anybody inform me about the nature of the said trek route and whether we should carry ice axe/ rope ?

Tapovan to Nandanvan would be traversing over the Gangotri glacier. The nature of the route is different from the glacial route one has to cover upto Tapovan. Crevices are very common, so an ice axe and rope is always useful to have, though it most probably will not be required. The route is very strainous as you would need to do boulder hopping. Take a good guide with you.
Nandanvan to Vasuki Tal involves a shorter stretch of glacier traversing.
