traveling to rishikesh

I am a newbie to India . I am traveling with a group of 20 for yoga and local travel. We are arriving in new delhi aug 2 and heading up to rishi on the 3rd. I wanted to do some day trips or local excursions around the area does anyone have some info. we leave on the 19 aug. I am wondering about weather, malaria pills because I am oh so confused! any info is so appreciated..

It's hardly a unique place to travel to. Have you looked into travel guides and so on?

I am sure it is quite touristy but I was hoping to travel up maybe. This is my first time so be easy on me....I havent thought about a guide but that would be a fine idea do you know where to look for a guide? I am a bit overwhelmed and would like to plan something atleast a little intresting.. thanks so much for the quick reply!

Um, I wasn't trying to put you down.

What I meant by a "travel guide" was a "travel guide book," you can pick up an old copy from the library, the general info will be more-or-less accurate. You can then pick up a recent copy if you decide to go, will be a worthy investment. You could then come back with more specific questions.

thanks Ill get back soon with more info.. I am looking into arunachal pradesh but researched to lateor I could have gotten stamped but my visa already came through, so I am looking into the time and red tape involved in travelers pass.. thanks again

Hm yes. Arunachal is nowhere near where you want to go though, accessibility aside (in fact, it's at the arse-end of India, and I've no idea if foreigners are allowed. Could look it up but you can do it yourself.) How much time you got? *

My usual advise is to look up the country on a map that shows it on the same scale as your home country. And bear in mind the infrastructure won't be the same. I'm getting the feeling you're being slightly optimistic here.

* 17 Days I see now. This is barely doable, sorry. Well, you could fly in and out. Possibly do the same with Rishikesh. Your original plan of "some day trips or local excursions around" Rishikesh seems far more realistic to me.
