| no... it's not ok... if u wanna ski, now is the time to be there... till march end... if u wanna go there for the view, then may / june is also ok... many pilgrims to badrinath in may / june also go to check out the views from auli... there is a cable car which takes u there in a few minutes from joshimath... or u can also take the road, which is less than half an hour's drive... cheers...! |

| But if you are not planning to Ski, then it is OK. What are your other concerns? Stay options are limited at Auli, so I hope you have figured out one. |

| Maha Guru Member | Ski will be there till end Feb(i would be going skiing in mid Feb myself) the winter games are usually in the last week of Feb every year. I suggest you book accommodation much in advance as April/May will be summer holidays and will result in more tourist. From Hardiwar you can take a pvt taxi to Joshimath and onwards via Cable Car to Auli. The cable car shut at 4pm roughly and travel time from Hardiwra will be approx 10hours so you will need to plan accordingly.

| has the GMVN improved? I stayed there in 2002 and it was the most stinking place I have ever stayed till date. If they have improved that is good news. |

| N Kumar, thanks for the reply. You mean no stinking carpets that were threadbare? I mean I used to wrap a shirt around my face to fall asleep or else the stink was just too much. |

| kodees, once you get to Haridwar there are an assortment of Hotels close to the railway station to pick from. The GMVNL hotel is not the best around and there are cheaper/better rooms around. You can either take a bus or organise a private taxi from haridwar to Auli. If you are not engaging the sumo..ie, group smaller than 7, then I suggest you take the bus as it will work out cheaper. Do keep in mind that it takes an extra 1-2 hours by bus. Also, start early from Haridwar as it is a long and rough road. Likewise, there are a few decent hotels in Joshimath as well. Stay in one of the newer ones. Always look at atleast 2-3 different hotel rooms before deciding. If you plan to stay in Auli, then the choice is limited to the GMVNL facility and the Mahindra resort. GMVNL Auli is excellent value for money.
