Is pre-paid taxi service available at Kathgodam station.
Genuine fare to Nainital?
Fare for excursions around Nainital, such as the lake district?
Fare and time required for a drive to Ranikhet?
Places that can be visited as a day trip from Nainital?

Thanks

From Kathgodam to Nainital you get Altos for Rs. 200 to Nainital. They may ask Rs. 300 per vehicle also, but the floor price is Rs. 200 per car (not per person).

For Daily excursion, you may get a Sumo for Rs. 1500 per day !

We are staying for 3 nights and 4 days in Nainital. Apart from visiting local sites we want to do short day trips to the best places around Nainital. Can we go to Ranikhet or Kausani and come back in the evening? How long does it take?

Dear Indizen....

We went to naini last month. And from my experience, i can suggest you some tips.

Taxi fare from kathgodam -
How many peoples are there in your group? Prepaid taxi is available and they will start with 600/- for a qualis/sumo.
you can fix it with 400 or 500.

Where you are planning to stay? got room? if not i can suggest one.

you can do
day1 - local naini trip
day2 - Lake tour
day3 - Muktheswar

you cant go to Kausani as a day trip (especially if you are not from a hilly area). it will take atleast 4 hour journey to one side. and traveling through hill roads is not that much easy.
You can go to Ranikhet as a day trip. but you have to start before 8Am and then can come back at 7pm. Ranikhet is not that much worthy but the journey to ranikhet is very scenic and beautiful.

Tariff - by local taxi operators for maruthi van
Local Naini trip - 1000
Lake tour - 1200
Muktheswar/Ranikhet - 1500
(but we went this tour for 600-800-1000-1000 respecively)
from the God's own Country
