Question Suggestion Needed for Nainital Visit

Hi Everybody,

I am reaching Nainital on 19th Jan'10 and want to visit Kausani & Chaukori. My planning something like this.

19th - Nainital visit / Night Stay
20th - Way to Kausani / Night Stay
21st - Way to Chaukori / Night Stay
22nd - Back to Nainital

Please suggest is it fine or some alteration needed. Please feel free to modify the same.

I want to book a private taxi separately for Nainital Visit and 3 days Kausani/Chakouri back to Nanital trip. Please give me an idea what will be the Taxi fare (Transportation only). Can I burgain with the Taxiwallas?.

Giving thanks in advance.

If you are going to Chaukori, why stay in Kausani? Spend two days in Chaukori.

I have heared that Chaukori's beauty is excellant than Kausani but I dont know the road condition/weather condition at that time to reach there because my little daughter will be with me.

Can you get me some info about the weather/road condition will be in January. Can we reach there?

Yesterday I called a Naini person (Private Taxi walla) and he told me that you can reach Kausani easily, no road blocks will be there but he does not know about Chaukori condition at that time.

He asked me Rs. 1200/- per day for the trip. Is it Ok..Please advice.

The trip itinerary looks okay. You will get ample time to enjoy the beauty of these places in the time stamp you have given.

But i prefer is that you can get Taxi from Haldwani. It takes around 60 to 90 mins to reach Nainital. They can charge you from 50 - 100 INR per seat. or even you can book taxi from there @ 500 - 700 INR for whole day for Nainital and near by places.

I prefer go by local bus upto Kausani then from there hire a Taxi. It wont cost you much. Else, if you hire a taxi from Nainital, it may cost you around 800 - 900 INR per day.

Alternate solution is that take a early morning bus from Nainital to Kausani, its a 5 to 6 hours journey. Spent half day there as it is a small town. Next day witness the sun rise and the golden look of the Nanda devi ranges. Then leave further to Chakouri. You can get local Taxi and can hire a private Taxi ask your hotel manager for it. They will arrange it for you.

Then from Chakouri again you can come by bus/Taxi to Nainital/Haldwani.

Food is cheap in those areas. In Kausani, you have order before if you are planning to have a non-veg meal in Dinner. Go to some local dhaba and order for the non-veg meal in the evening only. you will not regret this.

and in the end, local taxiwalas will change you nominal rate where as for hiring a private taxi you have to bargain.

cheers,
-Nitin

Road to Kausani is maintained by Indian army so it remains in good condition through out the year. Weather will be chilly at Kausani.

Chaukori will be more chilly than Kausani at that time of year. Road condition will be okay to travel.

You are traveling in the peek season that's y rate will be high. But try bargaining more else you do not have any other option as you are traveling with your little daughter. Reach Nainital and hire a taxi that time only, try bargaining and i guess you can get upto 1000 INR per day.

Weather will be chilly close to zero at night. Day time will be cold. You can expect snowfall too in Kausani at that time. carry good woolen cloths and it wont be too risky.

But as you have mentioned that you are traveling with your little daughter than it will be some what tiring for her.

Dear Nitin,

One more thing I want to ask you. Can you give any idea to prevent high altitude problem for my child as myself and my wife visited hilly areas many times, we dont have any problem but in this case my daughter will first time visit to hill areas.

Any idea on this will be highly appreciated.

Hello Souvik,

How old is your daughter? Usually, children of age above 5 years, do not suffer much. And as the places you are visiting are at same level (close to 2000 mtrs) so i do not think so that there will be any problem.
However, please carry enough woolen cloths to keep your child warm in chilly weather and drink as much water as you can.

that's all i can say.

cheers,
-Nitin

Hello Nitin,

Thank you for your suggestion.

My daughter is 3 years old and she does not feel too cold in our Kolkata winter weather where the Temp around 13-14C. I will take enough protection for her and do accordingly as you said.
