Not to sure as I did not venture out there during my visit last year. But i guess you can go upto Mana and further to Vasudhara Falls (5km from Mana) but you need to check and reconfirm on that.

Also if you going for skiing to Auli, Clifftop will arrange lessons for you, it was a part of my charges i had paid to them. The shortest course is a 4 days one and trust me you will need all the 4 days. It usually starts by 9-10am and till 2pm post that the climate changes and it does get colder / rain or snow.

Is the winter games time updated from Dec '09 to Jan 2010 ?

Hi,
My purpose of visiting AULI is just Skiing. Given the lack of natural snow I'm very eager to know if any artificial snow is planned during the asian winter games.

Here is the latest update that i founf from Google around Aug 24th 2009.

Is there any more recent update ? How to find that ?

Thanks,

sriram - please email me

It looks like the SAF winter games has been pushed out from DEC 2009 to Jan 2010.... The reason i'm so keen about that is because there is newz of artificial snow makers during that time.

The issue is lack of natural snow everywhere in the world. I followed the change from 2004 thru 2009 at North america and even best ski resorts waited for natural snow till January middle for their first major snow storm in 2008 and 2009. However they all have artificial snow makers which makes all resorts up-n-running since Xmas and new year holiday day and night.

Planning a Ski vacation of 5-7 days from Bangalore to AULI (via flight) is a matter of Rs 20-25,000 and i don't want to waste that money if there is no snow. I'm inspiring couple of my friends as (who Skiied at US earlier) but they also want to know if there will be SNOW (artificial/natural) in Jan 2010 ?

Is there someone local/who knows AULI can give me much better picture of whats going on at AULI in coming Dec-Jan 2010 ? That will help us plan better.

My email ID is diptam@yahoo.com if anyone wants to contact me outside the forum.

I would rather skip Auli,if winter games are planned during december 2009.. This invites crowd and creates accomodation ISsues.

Anyways, your news was bad. Let's hope something gets better.

thanks.. I have been hoping for a reply to this thread..for a long time.

Hi diptam, I was at auli Jan 2008. Was lucky to get over 15 ft. snow. As for local contact you can contact Santosh Lonari for current updates on Auli . Handphone # 9837685986. He is based in joshimath and an trained skiier and trekker.

auli plan

Diptam,

Sorry for the late reply. Cliff Top and their Ski plans are too costly for me .. and I am not able to get any mail from GMVN.. I am not even able to book GMVN now. Looks like,it is still under construction.

Beause of this,I am thinking of skipping auli. I am more intrested in just ejoying the snow and views than skiing... I am having some alternate plans and might gofor chopta/Mcclo..

Let's see how it goes.

do check out this link for snow skiing from

I arrived some days back from a shourt tour of Auli,Gorson Bugyal and Badrinath.
GMVN Auli is costly, the room cost around 3000Rs while dormitory is 250Rs per bed.We were three friends and opted for dormitory. The dormitory is good ,but still charges are high..Construction work is going on at GMVN Auli...I found Garhwal to be more expensive than Kumaon...
