There are only two hotels at Auli. The govt-owned GMVN is much the cheaper. However it was under renovation, you'd best check by fone once you arrive in India whether it has reopened.

the GMVN hotels at auli are still in the renovation phase.. but for accomodation there is another one.. cliff top.. since this season there has been very very less snowfall , so its not worth going to auli this season

Hi

I am off there in mid-October - staying at Clifftop with a couple of friends. How far is the Valley of flowers from Joshimath / Auli?

auli is 14 km from joshimath. for VOF you need to walk around 16 km from govindghat which is 28km from joshimath

skiing in december 2009

Just setting up this thread in motion again. Is anybody planning for auli in december Xmas-2009 ?

- Any updates on status of GMVN resthouses?
- Last year the snow was less,I guess . Any guess on how it would be in december 2009.
- Do we have any day rentouts of skiing equipments ?
-- How z the auli to garson top trek ?

I'm also looking forward for Skiing in DEC 09

Sriram,
I heard that AULI is trying for some artificial snow makers due to the Asian Winter Games in Dec 2009 and the absence of natural snow in 2008 and 2009 due to Global warming. I have skiied in North america last 5 years and trust me the arificial thing works pretty good - of course its always better to get natural snow

Its pretty expensive getting to the flight from Bangalore plus lodging for 4-5 days at Auli so I dont want to spend a single penny without Skiing - you know !

Lets get in touch with GMVNL folks there to figure out if that will be ready. I saw a update in Google that around mid August all preparations were washed away.... dont know what that means.

Thanks !

oops

When are the asian winter games planned exactly ? Is it going to be in december 2009 or Feb/MArch 2010 ?

I would rather skip Auli,if winter games are planned during december 2009.. This invites crowd and creates accomodation ISsues.

Anyways, your news was bad. Let's hope something gets better.

thanks.. I have been hoping for a reply to this thread..for a long time.

Thumbs down skiing in auli/activities in badrinath during feb

HI

I would be going to clifftop resort, auli during the 2nd week of feb next yr.

Is there any chance of there not being any snow during feb for skiing? My Agent told me it should not be a problem.

Besides what else can we do? Badrinath temple would be closed. Are there any other soft treks during the month of feb in and around joshimath since the weather would be challenging.

Nishit, Feb the chances of snow are more or less 100%.

You can trek up to Gurson Top (depends on the level of snow) from Clifftop and to the RR point (army communication tower).

Enjoy ya trip !
