Yes.. Skiing in Auli with GMVN is a fun.. I have done it 2 years back.. and it still remains one of my best trips..

You dont need to looks partners for that trip.. You will find some excellant guys there who would have come for skiing.. I met 2 such people from bbay there and still feel happy to have them as freinds.

You may also find some Namoonas, who will stick to the cable TV in the cafeteria(there were a few from NDTV crew)..

Hi Friend,

Just be here to say, that snow have been melted on high passes, so i think its not snow at Auli, so pls check out before reserving your seat or going to auli that condition of snow.

Also i can suggest you that, there are few travel agents in Joshimath who offer ski tours, so you can contact them for more snow news or also you can book the trips with them, if you do not get seat at GMVN for ski.

Go to these links to know more about ski tours and news;

www.gmvnl.com
www.uttaranchaltourisum.com
www.adventuretrekking.org
www.thegarhwalhimalayas.com
www.thehimalayanadventures.com

Or if you go direct to Joshimath, can contact Mr.Shikhar, one of the best agents in joshimath and Mr.Sanjay the other skiing guy live at Auli, they runs, a company i forget name at Hotel Mount View Joshimath.

Also can visit for cheap ski tours adventure trkekking guy.

I hope you will have great fun with ski there, but pls first check the snow and then be there.

Enjoy your ski trip

Don't know much about snowboarding. But one thing is for sure there would be lots of snow in Jan. Skiing is the main activity during this month.

Auli is connected by Cable Car as well as road from Joshimath which is the nearest town to Auli. There are just two resorts / hotels in Auli where you can stay out of that one is of GMVN (govt. owned). however at Joshimath there are plenty of options to choose from for staying.

Joshimath can be reached from Haridwar / Rishikesh by govt. & pvt. Buses, Shared taxis & pvt. taxis. The journey would take around 10 - 12 hrs time.

Hope this helps.

Ronak.

Best you contact Club Mahindra for your skiing requirements. Yes, the slopes are great for skiing in February. Carry synthetic type track suits/pants and leather gloves as they are damp resistant.

from these posts the snow in auli sounds less than awesome...i might be wrong. i haven't been there, but have skied at gulmarg (kashmir) last winter. definitely no problems with the snow...or the mountain! deep deep powder down to tangmarg through the forest. steep intermediate sections up to mid station. the top section only opened on the day we left, but looked inspiring! hope you have a great time
500rs gondola up to mid station, full day.

It is not yet snowing in Auli........and the temperature range is 3*C - 10*C as of yesterday. Hope it snows...by the time we are there on the 29th Dec.
We are putting up at Cliff-top for a couple of days, as the GMVN is not available, during this period.

Guys, a quick question. The clifftop seems to be quite expensive. It is amounting to almost Rs.6000 per night. I have stayed in a comparable resort in Gulmarg last year and it came out to Rs.2000 per night. For those of you who have booked the Clifftop, what is the per night cost that you are having to pay? I am planning stay there on my trip to Auli in jan 09. Thanks
