Hi,

I'm planning to stay at the Sivananda Ashram in Uttarkashi for a month in October and am wondering what the weather will be like? What kind of clothes would I need to bring?

I'd like to travel into Nepal in November. What are conditions like? Is this a bad time?

I am not a seasoned trekker...

Thanks

One of our two Uttarkashians shud be along soon to answer your Qs .
The weather will be pleasant in the day, specially when the sun is out. Nights will be a bit cold.

Nepal's tourist season is all year round, except during monsoon. Plenty of people visit in Nov.

Where the Shivananda Ashram is situated it is on the banks of the Bhagirathi River and it gets nippy there during the nights. The days are nice a pleasant but the nights are chilly, you will need warm clothes for the evenings and nights but the days would be gorgeous and sunny. Another question is which Shivananda Ashram are you staying at? The Shivananda Kutir in Netala where they teach yoga or the Shivananda Ashram which is in Ganeshpur?
For in and around Uttarkashi you needn;t be a seasoned trekker there are plenty of places that are good for newbies.

Great, thankyou! I will be going to the Sivananda Kutir.

Is the trek to the Valley of Flowers a difficult one? I'm young and sort of fit! I've read about it in the guidebooks and it sounds fantastic.

What about other things to see/do? I love the countryside, beautiful scenery etc, and am less interested in religious sites.

I hear a lot about Ladakh, is it possible to travel there in November? Also, is Dharamsala worth the visit? I am not a buddhist, so would feel a bit uncomfortable just going for the dalai lama...

I'm doing that typical thing though where you try and plan everything before you get there! Stupid really, especially for India!!

VOF closes in early October.

The roads to Ladakh also close by end-Oct/early-Nov, then it's only accessible by air.

There are plenty of nice places to visit in and around Uttarkashi and in Uttarakhand besides VoF. You could check these out too.

Going to Uttar Kashi in October

Hi Hannah and Katie,

I saw your posts and am going to the Sivananda Ashram in Uttar Kashi in October as well. Would you be interested in travelling together, we could meet in Delhi and then go from there?

Hi Katie and Vinta,

Unfortunately I got ill a few months ago and have not been doing much yoga, so decided not to do the TTC just yet. Instead I'm going to travel and take it a bit easy, and build up my own practice again slowly. I really hope the TTC goes well for you both. I'd love to be there, but my body needs more than 5 hours sleep a night at the moment! Very best of luck with it. Please post on here when it's over and let us know how you got on.

Hi Katie and Vinita,

I just read that you both have done the TTC course at Sivananda Kutir in the fall and I really wanted to ask for your feedback. I'm currently looking to do a ttc but found mixed reviews on Sivananda centers. I worry it's too commercialized and about churning out as many teachers as possible. Also, if I could ask what kind of yoga you were doing back home and how long? Did the course and center live up to your expectations? As much detail as you can give would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure you understand choosing the right course and ensuring you having expectations are both really important.

Thank you so much in advance.

TTC course Sivananda Kutir, Uttarkashi June'13

Hi

I'm attending the TTC course in Sivananda Ashram in Uttarkashi on 16th June. Is anyone going there and we can travel together?

Does anyone can help me to know how to get there? I was thinking of taking a bus from Delhi to Haridwar, overnight there and take an early bus from Haridwar to Uttarkashi. Another option is flighting to Derhadun Airport...What's a good and safe option?

Thanks for the help, I'm quite lost!
