Situated at an altitude of 3870 meters in the Syahi Devi hill Sitlakhet is another gem in Kumaon.
It is a short drive away from Almora & provides stunning view of the snow capped mountains. There is a KMVN tourist lodge and a raj style forest bungalow complete with fire place and easy chairs. You can simply take out an easy chair to the front lawn & gaze at the mountains whole day basking in the Sun. In the afternoon take a walk in the reserve forest just behind the bungalow. We have seen foxes there. I was told that a resort has come up near here & I am really disappointed. This place was once my escape to complete peace & seclusion.

Jyotida, is it metres or feet? Could you re-check, please?

3870 metres happens to be 12,578 feet.... which is about the snow line or above in Kumaon.

Yes Avid its my mistake. I was refering my notes jotted during our abandoned trip to Kafni Glacier which is at 3870 meters. Sitlakhet is at similar height to Binsar that is 2430 meters. The error is regretted & thank u for pointing it out. Memory & vision both play funny games as u get old.

How are the views from KMVN Sitlakhet ? Unobstructed views of HImalayan ranges ? .. I mean there should be no tall trees interrupting in between the range line. ...

This I think is what you get from KMVN

http://sitlakhet.toursuttarakhand.com/

I know from Vriddh Jageshwar you get awesome views with no obstructions. Theres a road along the ridge there and the views are great.

Here's a pic I got online from Jageshwar since I was out of film when I got there in 1998 and have no pics.

I stayed there last Nov and found the view to be severely obstructed by trees. The only saving grace was from rooftop of first floor.
