Yamunotri route!

Just back from Yamunotri via Dehradoon-Barkot.And the roads after Barkot and Syanchhati are really in bad shape.
Plus huge no of people are turning up for the shrine which is causing a lot of congestion on the trekking route.
One should start the trek early morning and that too on a weekday to avoid traffic.
Returned via Rishikesh route which is overall better than Dehradoon stretch.

I'm quoted here the present road condition as stated by anishmangal2002 in the thread-
Tungnath, Chandrashila, Deoria tal in mid-may
"FWIW, here are the road conditions currently prevailing in the places I went:
Rishikesh - Byasi (Good)
Byasi - Devprayag (Average)
Devprayag - Srinagar (Average, broken at some places)
Srinagar - Rudraprayag (Good, broken at some places)
Rudraprayag - Kund (Good)
Kund - Guptkashi (Broken in early stretch, average otherwise)
Guptkashi - Phata (Average)
Phata - Sonprayag (VERY BADLY BROKEN and extremely dusty)
Kund - Ukhimath - Sari - Chopta (Good, all along this route)"

Also, there are HUGE traffic jams at Sonprayag on the kedarnath route, which, I've been told is an everyday thing, this time of the year during peak rush.Be prepared to wait for a day (Atleast) stuck between sonprayag-gaurikund, if you're taking your own car.
Is Delhi-Chakrata route in good condition, after right turn from Main GT road at Indri.BTW, is this right turn easily locatable, considering new toll plaza which was being built.
Papaya is a Vegetable and Tomato is a Fruit
Right turn at Indri? Some confusion here - you go straight from Indri to get to Ladwa and Yamunanagar. You take a right on the Karnal bypass to get to Indri. There are 5 or so right turns on the bypass, you have to keep an eye out for the correct one. It's at a V to the national highway. Or just ask.
Myself I'd just go the short way via Muzaffarnagar/Saharanpur and put up with a section of bad road after Saharanpur till the Uttarakhand border, but that's just me.

Me too would have prefered short route but this time wanted to explore this, now much frequented, new route to Dehradoon.O.k. I drive uptill karnal bypass and V point is there, one leading to Ambala and other one in Karnal city. Do I need to drive till this point, I was thinking
right turn On GT road is much earlier.BTW, what is your recommended place for stay in chakrata region, am ever gratefull to you for suggesting Sunshine in Manali last year.

Need to know too... Last time I visited, there were hardly any places to stay within the town (if I can call it that)... Badrinath
Dear All,
I am planning to go Badrinath on 6th June; my travel plan will be like this.
6th June: I will start at 4:00 AM from Faridabad and hoping to reach Rishikesh by 10:00 AM. I will rest here for 2 hours and then will start to Karnaprayag and hopefully reach there by 5:00 PM.
7th June: I will start at 5:00AM from Karnaprayag and will reach Badrinath by 12:00 Noon. I will go for darshan on the same day and stay in Badrinath on 7th June.
8th June: I will start at 5:00 AM from Badrinath to Rishikesh / Haridwar; I hope I will reach there by 5:00 PM. I will stay either at Rishikesh / Haridwar.
9th June: I will go back to Faridabad.
Is this plan good? What do you suggest? Can somebody share his contact information who recently visited Badrinath. I would like to talk to him.
Thanks & best Regards

Hi Dilliwala,
You may find this post else where too. Been looking for someone to guide me. Anyway, amazed at your knowledge. Seems like you know the area like the back of your palm. Was just wondering if you could help me out with a few quick questions, since all the mails I find about Lansdowne seem to be at least 3 years old. I plan to drive from Delhi to Rishikesh, spend two days there and then to Lansdowne in the second week of Jun 12. First, should I do the standard Meerut bypass-Muzzafarnagar-Roorkee-Haridwar-Rishikesh route (i'm somewhat familair with it, having driven to Doon many times) or should I do Meerut-Bijnor-Najibabad-Haridwar-Rishikesh?
Second, Drive from Rishikesh to lansdowne through Duggadda or the other one through the jungle from Kotdwar.
Third, have you done these lately, how are the roads? I travel with family.
Appreciate any responses. Thanks

Well, it's a very long way to get to Dehradun city, for that the 'traditional' route is better. But it's ok to go to Herbertpur and north.

You need to go much further
, to the end of Karnal in fact. Are you familiar with the Kunjpura road? It's at 90 deg (almost) to the NH. The next turn right after that is the road you want, the signboard for Indri/Ladwa is on the side-road AFTER the turn
. Go to Google Maps, you'll get a good idea. You can see the Kunjpura road clearly, then the next road right is shown as SH 7 leading to Indri and Ladwa.

There's also Himalayan Paradise, but that's outside Chakrata.
(There were some recent posts on Chakrata accom in another thread, look for them)
