If you'd listened to me and taken the route via Khirsu, you would have avoided that 30-min pileup before Shrinagar.

Hmmmm... Agli bar sahi. Frankly despite the good directions u gave, I somehow could not figure out the route. Part of the reason I guess was that google maps did not show Khirsu at all!

You've obviously not come across my posts describing GMaps as a joke (or words to that effect) in respect of the hills. Best (least bad) is a Nest and Wings map of UA, available at any major bookshop for Rs. 70.

For next time - you passed Buwakhal on the way to Pauri (5 km before on the way up). Right turn here takes you to Khirsu. Continue and you can reach either (a) Shrinagar the long way, or (b) Khankra on NH 58.

Should be ok. On weekends you'll find a traffic jam to/from Kempty Falls, so better to pass it early in the day.

One thing that troubled me on the Chakrata Mussorie road were the numerous unmarked intersections on the way. Since the stretch is relatively deserted, i did not have villagers to ask for directions. After taking a few wrong turns, i stopped at a chai stall and the chai-wallah told me to follow the older road at each intersection. Best advice i have ever had.

Planning to go to Yamunotri this weekend from Delhi via Roorkee-Dehradun-Yamuna Bridge-Barkot.
What kind of road conditions should we expect and any comments on current weather condition out there will be helpful.

Yunotri roads are not in good conditions as such.. lots of off-roading is can be there..weather you can expect to get clear by the time you venture out...

Ya possible in one day... Meerut to rudraprayag shd be not more than 10-11 hours though it does depend on time of the day u r moving. At the risk of blatantly promoting my travelogue, I would advise you to go through it.... It has some details of my trip which involved moving on this route... http://www.indiamike.com/india/journ...owentry&e=1256
