Ok buddy then what is that Kathgodam-Simli route you are mentioning? But I think even the people from delhi can use this route. In june 2010, while returning from Badrinath, we had taken karnaprayag-gwaldam-kausani-ranikhet-kathgodam route. The road was in excellent condition and with less traffic but I guess the heavy rains of last year and this year would have changed the scenario a lot.

oh... sorry i thought i'm understood... i meant

delhi - kathodam - ranikhet - gwaldam - simli - karnaprayag - joshimath - VoF

why people don't go like this?? is it a very long route compared to

delhi - rishikesh - devprayag - rudraprayag - joshimath - VoF

or the first route also is as damaged & dangerous in monsoons like second route or worse????

There will be another point to that as I think, in case of any natural calamity (like landslide), the help will be available much earlier at the national highway 58, comparing to Kathgodam-Gwaldam-Karnaprayag route.

Kathgodam-Kausani route is much more scenic, specially the stretch from Tharali to Karanpryag. In summers, the Deoprayag route is damn hot. The distance difference between Del/Rishikesh and Del/kathgodam may probably be the reason that people don't take that route.

Jitu bhai, I agree that route is much scenic but when I covered this route in June 2010, it was very hot in the daytime. It was my second visit to Kausani, first time I saw Fans in a restaurent. Same thing happened at bhimtal and even in nainital also. The hotels were having fans in the rooms. I was disappointed after seeing that much hot weather. While coming from Gwaldam to Bhimtal, I was not willing to come out of the car (for taking snaps) owing to the hot weather.

Mosederbaer,

i think you are going in a wrong time... firstly i don't think there's any wrong time.. even if you go in such time.. it should be beautiful...... your camera might have cried on u for not taking pics because you didn't come out of that choking car !! kidding ha..

II post -
then in that period.. devprayag route would be hotter because in last sept. the route which took 4 wet cool n scenic days with landslides was more joyous than the return dry dusty hot tiring 1 day journey.. esp near devprayag it was like summer in plains.. i was wondering myself so much.. whether i was traveling on the same road which was so pleasant a fortnight back
although i can't comment about the other route as i've never seen it... but heard/ read many times that kumaon is surely more beautiful than garhwal region of u'khand !!!

I like this buddy. But litterly I am not addict to the air conditioner. Nainital has always been my favorite for cool weather for the whole year and I have been there many times. But during that trip, I really felt that climate change has taken its toll on nainital also.

Of course, did not mean that you are addicted. I just remembered this and mentioned. But yes, in summers, the road journey even in hills can be patience testing without an AC. More so, as you are closer to the sun

No offence dear

I support what you said about weather. I know, I should not mention it in this thread but same weather I experienced in June this year while my trip to Spiiti valley in himachal pradesh.

There is in fact more than one way to get to Karnprayag/Joshimath through Kumaon. And it's fine for anyone with a private car to try those. But the bulk of travellers do not use private cars, they use public transport or hired vehicles. Firsrtly, going via Kumaon increases your cost. Secondly, Rishikesh as a launch-pad is so much better organised to go up-valley than coming via Kumaon. You could take a train to Ramnagar or Haldwani/Kathgodam, but then unless you hire your own car you'll have to change bus or jeep a few times (here's the irony - a bus from Haldwani to the Alaknanda valley would probably go full at least 6 months a year, yet the only bus going that way just covers Gwaldam/Tharali/Deval/Lohajang. Not counting the buses from Dwarahat and Bageshwar to Karnprayag [on to Dehradun]).

I do not believe that NHs or SHs are the issue, there are in fact 2 NHs going through Kumaon which terminate in Garhwal, and they (or most of their respective lengths) would be the obvious choices to do the traverse.

adarsh - if you want to go to VOF via Kumaon, you should take the bus form Haldwani upto Tharali. It actually originates in Delhi, but that would be a killer ride.

You're not seriously expecting anyone to answer that, are you? There are no astrologers here (AFAIK).
