Highway is in very bad shape...

But you can take the canal route from Muradnagar upto Roorkee and then come on the highway..

Thanks, have you been on this canal Rd? I plan to leave pretty early- around 5am,also, please do advise exact coordinates from where to get on to this canal rd.

conversely, while returning, is it advisable to return by canal rd as well?
thnx again.

Yes I have been on this Canal Road many times. It's no problem in early morning. You'll find that most of the taxies take this route only.

While coming from Delhi when you pass Muradnagar, you'll come across Canal, just after the canal bridge take left. You'll be on canal road, this will come out at Khatauli. You may break at Cheetal Grand, it should be open by then. Then again take the same route till Roorkee. There will be few rough patches of very brief duration.

At Roorkee take left at the first bridge and you'll be on Delhi - Dehradun highway. It'll take you one and a half hour from there to Dehradun.

You can take the same route while returning. Just Avoid night time travel on this road.

Ok, will take this Canal Rd. BTW: does it make route to D'dun any shorter?

So, basically this road can go right up till Roorkee? right?

The distance is same, but due to less traffic, you move faster.

Basically it's Kanwar Yatra Route and goes upto Haridwar....

just returned today morning(11.am) from D'dun. I took the canal road from Murad Ngr. and reached Cheetal, and then took the NH 58 for onward journey and got majorly stuck up at the site of construction of a flyover and MuzzafarNgr bypass(wrong timing i guess) for 2 hrs. That not withstanding, the canal road till Khatauli was fine but i was told that beyond that its in bad shape..so i did not follow up.

While returning, i left D'dun at 6 am and came down while NH58 uptill Cheetal and then took the canal rd. and was able to reach Delhi well under 6hrs..

Vehicle: I was initially planning to take an Accord but i guessed that roads could play a spoil sport so i took a Ford Ikon(high ground clearance + lesser in width) & i think it was the right thing to do ..

Verdict: Take Canal Rd till Khatauli and then hit the NH 58 but make sure to leave early.

QED

I traveled on this road last month only, the road from Kahatauli to Roorkee is also same, few bad patches...and no other problem...

And one more thing is that after Khatauli the road is more scenic...
