Question rented house in the hills?

Hi
One of my friend is coming from Orissa to be in the Himalayas for a month ( march 06)..his options are UTTARANCHAL....HIMACHAL PRADESH......somwhere away in a small remote place....far from the madding crowd.....he has asked me to arrange this trip for him..he is a spiritual kind of a guy....
I know IM is the best place for such kind of help....
Can anyone suggest me some places ...and can I get a rented house for a month ...and for how much....
any suggestion is highly appriciable....Thanks in advance..

Kalmatia-sangam is very costly.

Try Family resort in Joshimath - Auli road, they have only 4 rooms clean and good view rooms, you can get it in cheap, as one of mine friend, have been staying there for two months while making a ski trip and snowboard trip.

Can contact the guy Santosh at his email adress santoshkunwar2000@yahoo.com

Hope you will like it.

Enjoy it !!

Shunty.

I talked with my friend today morning and conveyed him all the info you ppl posted.....but he seems to be more interested in staying in a village home with local guy and off the beaten track away from the normal tourist trail....
now it seems to me that it won't be that easy this time .....
any IMer's have any thought about this...

During my visit to Choukori Nov '05, I met a Bangalore based Swiss Photographer .Coni Horler www.chphotography.ch. He was doing some photo assingments for a swiss mag ..about the Peaks of Garwal and Kumaon Himalayas which he had almost finished...He told me that he was getting prepared for another photo assignment of a local Garwal Village....and has already arranged a house for three months in a remote village 50 kms off Nandaprayag. He told me that he got the house for 2000 INRS /month...
I narrated this because I just wanted you all to explain that my friend wants something of this sort.......

Lonelywanderer tell your friend to try Papersalli near to Almora on the Binsar road!!
There are many of these types of home stays all the way up the kasar Devi ridge!

Khim has small simple cottages to rent for 300-350 a day, nothing fancy a bed and a wood stove but in a really nice setting, there are a few tourists around as it a guest house but you can lead your own life in the cottage if you like away from everyon!!

A wander around this area will certainly turn up exactly what your friend is looking for if Khim's doesn't fit the bill!!

He could even stay at Tara's guest house (try apple samosas, MMmm) while he scouts out that perfect place!!

I was in the Almora/Kausani region late December last year. The days were sunny and warm (a bit colder in Kausani) the evenings very cold.

Try and get a room with a Burka or wood stove, the wood gets delivered to your door and it keeps you snug as bug in the evening time!!

The views at this time were amazing!!

Hi Cyberhippie

I've been to Daarjieling in Dec, which is great during the day and biting cold at night. I presume that this area would be very similar ??
