Please suggest me the best places to see in Uttarakhand in 2 weeks next month?
hello friends
!
I just came across this amazing forum a while ago,and thought to call on all of you experienced travellers here who have had been to Haridwar/Rishikesh/Kedarnath/Badrinath or that entire region, and sort out a probable itinerary for me; I am sure,it's much better to do it with your experience and help than to do it myself starting from the scratch; So,below I provide a little details of my travel plan or what I am willing to do, to start with and will be providing more details,as the need be and if I get some response out of this thread!
I am having about 15 days of time in my hand,starting from 20th July in Haridwar/Rishikesh and ending on 6th August in Delhi and I am willing to see the most of that region which could be adjusted within that time period; And we are two people going,mostly on a budget tour hence sharing taxis,buses and such cheaper mode of transport would be what we are be looking for; Can you all tell me a probable itinerary alongwith it some good & budget accomodation at those places from your previous experience? If so,that would be very helpful to me;
Thanking you all well in advance and hoping to hear more from you all sometime soon!

Hi exogeneric,
Sadly, I do not have any information that would be of help to you. I am posting because I have the exact same travel schedule as you.
This will be my first time traveling to India and I wall be traveling solo. I will be arriving on July 21st in Delhi and leaving on the 5th of august, giving me a few days less than you. I plan to spend about 2/3 days in Delhi before heading towards Uttarkhand and going the Haridwar/ Badrinath/ Valley of flowers route. I really don't have any helpful information as of now but I figure with similar schedules, we can try to swap info about housing, bus schedules, road conditions etc.
Would you happen to have any idea about if it is necessary to book hotels ahead of time for this area? I understand that it is the pilgrimage time, but it is also monsoon season so should we be expecting a lot of other people along the trail or will we be alright finding hotels after we have arrived in each city?
thanks,
Xian

First of all remember that this is monsoon time and it rains heavily in the hills of Uttarakhand. Land slides are quite common so be prepared for delays.
This is the best time to visit Valley of flowers. You will find lot of information about VOF here if you search.

Haridwar-Rishikesh-Kedarnath-Badrinath
Hi,
I am also planning to travel HAridwar-Rishikesh-Kedarnath-Badrinath-HAridwar beginning 28th July 2008 to 6th August. I am planning to take my children 15 and 13 and my mother. I am counting on Pawan Hans helicopter service from Agstya Muni to Kedarnath for my mother. Do you have any information on this service?
I am worried about monsoon season also. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

exogeneric - I suggest you browse in this forum a bit and narrow down to a few places. There are a number of directions poss from HW/Rksh and at present it's too wide an arc. Feel free to ask more Qs thereafter.
Xian - Altho it is the pilgirmage season, it won't be a problem to wing it re accom. The GMVNs are dull but safe options.
What you cud do is phone a day ahead or same day if you know where you'll be at night.
Indianchilli - Yes.

Helicopter service taken off keeping in view heavy rainfall
Hi mate,
if any one of you are planning to visit Kedarnath by Air..
here is a bad news for you all, the helicopter service has been taken off from August Muni to kedarnath for the monsoon season..
Pawan Hans has already stopped advance Booking for the flights as there has been ongoing heavy rainfall in this part of the worlds,,.
apart from pawan Hans, Prabhatam has also severed huge losses as they are also unable to take on flights due to bad weather conditions,,,
Please do not rely on Choppers service during this part of the monsoon season....
it is more possible that you need to hire pony to travel this time..
you can always call Pwan Hans Office at Delhi or Rudra Prayag
Helipad at AgustMuni: 01364-056825
Pawan Hans, c/o Monal Resort, Rudraprayag: 01364-233901/2
pawan Hans Delhi Office: 011-24651248
GMVN Office: Dehradun- 0135-2746817, 2747898
Rishikesh- 0135-2435174, 2431793
Haridwar - 01334- 224240
Thanks & Regards,
Sandeep

Planning to visit Badrinath in June 2011 from Hardwar by road, but main problem during Hilly journey I feel vomiting and uneasyness feeling in body, can any one suggest how to over come the situation, is there any medicine or any other way for this.
and also is it possible to reach Badrinath on the same day, in that case at what time should start from Hardwar.

Reason: xx
If you get carsick easily, it's best you consult your doctor before travelling.
Haridwar to Badrinath is basically not possible in one day, and if you're prone to car-sickness is best to avoid. Take a night-halt at Karnprayag or at most Birahi.

Hi Dilliwala,
Thanks for ur good advice.
It is not basically carsickness, vomiting tendency may be due to Hill journey.
If it is not possible / difficult to reach from Hardwar to Badrinath on same day, pl suggest good place for night halt where some sighseen can be covered, also pl inform good place to stay in Badrinath near Temple or bus stand and suggest some Budgeted Holet name if possible with contact no.

Rudraprayag or Karnprayag would be good for a halt.
Badrinath has 3-4 GMVN GHs, take a look at their website and see if they suit your budget.
I myself stayed at Vanktesh Paying Guest House in 2007, it's right opposite the Bus Terminal and was good and cheap. Tel. no. is 01381-222255.
