Hi guys im wondering with the above treks.. how far apart are they from eachother and if i started with the valley of flowers trek first.. which is the next closest trek i would have to go to, how far would it be, is it walking distance? will there be any teahouses along the way or will i have to hitch-hike or get a ride from someone and which suburb do i go to to start the new trek etc..?

sorry with the questions.. ive got so many i dont know where to begin. im leaving this july and nervous and excited at the same time. every feedback would help me tremendously.. thanks for your time!!

All are quite far away from each other. Har-ki-Doon and Valley of Flowers, are in Garhwal region, rest in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
Try reading about them in pre-existing threads in the Trekking and Mountaineering in India forum and then locate them on this map and then you'll have a broad idea of how far they are from each other.

No showers when I did it years ago. You'll have to get by with bucket baths.

No teahouses or the showers on your route. Unless you opt for a few off-trails and march into some villages you will require all the stuff (eat, drink, bath etc) on your own. Usually we have porter and mule do that unless there are trained mountaineers going about their expedition. You can expect bucket of warm waters…. I have also managed about large groups that carry those makeshift showers in tents.. But those are large groups with a lot invested for their expedition.
There will be a lot of walk in between those locations you've mentioned and it is utterly difficult to walk all the way. Uou oughta use local transport.
Good you're nervous and excited...means you're serious about your Trekking and that is the 1st necessity for any trekking expedition.
I will hope everything goes safe and exciting for you!

Well definition of tea houses varies - in Nepal in tea houses one can get even Apple Studdle but not in Garhwal . Bucket bath is the order of the day and come to think of it Bucket bath is green as the water wastage is less Agreed, the term Teahouse Trek is generally used in Nepal and not so much in India. People here will probably confuse it with availability of shops selling tea on the trek route. Basically a trek that doesn't need you to carry tent and food is called a teahouse trek.

On the treks that you are inquiring about sussan, you'll more probably get Forest/KMVN/GMVN rest houses or hotels for night halt. For example, the base for Valley of Flowers is at Ghangharia and there are hotels available there. Camping/Staying at VOF overnight is not allowed, there are no "teahouses" or even "teashops" there. So it's a day trip from Ghangharia. For Har-Ki-Doon trek, you'll find Forest/GMVN rest houses enroute. I'm not sure if you have to carry food also. Pindari/Kafni and Milam treks will need further research. hello sussan,
july end it would be raining at these places. may be it would be a different expeience.no tea houses here. you only get tea shops.....i can tell about two places.
Valley of flowers: don't need to carry food and tents. govindghat (on badrinath highway) is the place you start your walk. 13 kms and you reach ghagaria (small settlement). here you have hotels, restaurants, tea shops etc. you stay here at night and leave for valley of flowers next morning which is 3 kms. from ghagaria. you cant stay at valley of flowers and so you return back. no problems of bathing. hotels have facilities(though very basic).
har ki dun: it is in uttarkashi district. about 200-210 kms from dehradun(capital of uttarakhand) road terminates at sankri(there is a road for jeeps upto taluka which is 12 kms ahead of sankri on har ki dun route. the road is sometimes not operational due to landslides). 12 kms ahead is seema. 13 kms ahead is har ki dun. i was there this march with my tent and stuff. you have gmvn guest houses and forest rest houses at sankri, taluka, seema and har ki dun. during that season the route is operational and you dont need to carry tents, food etc.(though tenting is a great experience). the places are good.
both the places are quite far from each other and one needs around 10-12 hours of travelling(by bus/jeep: govindghat to sankri) to reach the other place. trekking not feasible.
as far as other places are concerned they are more far away. those places might need tents, food etc but i have not been to those places. high altitude passes and glacial treks can be done around vaaley of flowers as well as har ki dun. if you can rethink on places to see, you can save a lot of time. can provide options.
write if you have queries on these places...would love to help out.
