New Year at Binsar -- Will it snow?

Hello,

I am planning to be at Binsar this New Year. Is there any possibility of it snowing it there during the New Year time? How is the road condition (Delhi to Almora)?

Sanjay, it can be expected that it may snow, but still cant be confirmed... waiting for some precipitation to happen by next week... do have second plan aswell...

I was there some 10 days back, it was quite cold at night time, so as Tilak bhai said, snowfall should take place by December end.

Road is bad from Kanwarub to Khairna, but you can go from Mukteshwar side.

Binsar elevation is around 2400 m, to increase your probability of snow choose a location around or above 3000 m. You have good chances of snow. Because even if it snows it will melt in a few days at 2400 m elevation. From 10,000 ft & above the chances go higher.

Thanks Everybody for Pitching In. I actually am not too hell-bent on Snow (Being a Kashmiri). We just wanted a quite new year celebration this year (for a change). Have booked KMVN Binsar. Let’s see how it unfolds. Will spend a night at Bhimtal while going up.

Can you tell me some such places in Uttarakhand or HP?? And is alltitude is around 3000m then will it be feasible to reach there??

In Manali, when you go towards Rohtang there is place called Kothi and shortly after Kothi you will encounter snow. MArhi will be snow bound and no one lives there in the winter. There is PWD rest house in Kothi. You would have to trek to reach snow bound places around 1-2 kms. Catch hold of the locals there. And can spend a day and then come back.

Jalori Pass, approach from Banjar (Tirthan Valley) or from Shimla will be snow bound. If you come via Aut then you can stay in Shoja, there is PWD rest house or if you want a luxury option you can stay at Banjara Camps in Shojha. Jalori Pass is a close 5-6 kms from here.

In Uttarakhand, you can head to chopta region and can do camping or stay in the guest houses there. You can encounter snow on the Chopta Chandrashila Trek. Chandrashila is at an altitude of around 4000 m.

Spiti is snow bound but is quite far from Delhi and I'm not sure whether it is something that will attract you.
