Hi Team

We 6 friends are planning to go Gomukh Tapovan during 1st week of Oct.

Basis all my Indiamike friends suggestions and tips, I have fixed the itinerary but still wanted to get last minute suggestion before we book the flight.

I need your help for the following :
1) Hope the itinerary is not too hectic
2) What is the latest procedure to get the permit from Uttarkashi DFO (6 friends + 1 guide + 1 porter)
3) Do you have any good budget hotel in Hrishikesh (nearby taxi stand like Natraj Chawk)
4) How to book Mauni Baba’s Ashram at Tapovan. Hope Guide can help us.
5) Need good guide recommendation from Gangotri (not from Uttarkashi to save the budget). What is the present rate for Guide and Porter. I had a talk with one guide – he is asking for Rs.1500 for guide and Rs.1400 for 2 porters excluding food & conveyance (per day). Also they wanted to go from UttarKashi to Uttarkashi (6 days cost - not ready to go from Gangotri).

Thank you so much for the continued support.
Regards, Samir

Day 1 – Hrishikesh to Uttarkashi
Day 2 – Uttarkashi to Gangotri
Day 3– Gangotri to Bhojwasa
Day 4 – Bhojwasa to Tapovan
Day 5 – Tapovan to Bhujwasa
Day 6 – Bhujwasa to Gangotri
Day 7 – Gangotri to Kaudiala (via Harshil)

A guide didn't seem necessary when I went in Oct 2008. But 2-3 porters will be needed if you carry sleeping bags and stuff. We paid 400 per person per day

Thank you so much Rahul for your inputs.

Let me understand if anyone had been there in the recent past. Hopefully Sajish bhai can put some light over there.

1) Hope the itinerary is not too hectic.

### Itinerary is good as per day by day altitude
2) What is the latest procedure to get the permit from Uttarkashi DFO (6 friends + 1 guide + 1 porter)
### Permit you can get in advance from online ( the website work will be soon, news update Via local guide from Uttarkashi)

3) Do you have any good budget hotel in Hrishikesh (nearby taxi stand like Natraj Chawk)

## Near Natraj no any budget hotel , By walking Distance ISBT Rishikesh, Have so many options , catch direct bus to gangotri from there?

4) How to book Mauni Baba’s Ashram at Tapovan. Hope Guide can help us.

### At mouni baba u can take services on basics basis and pay just like a donations , it depand on Guide.

5) Need good guide recommendation from Gangotri (not from Uttarkashi to save the budget). What is the present rate for Guide and Porter. I had a talk with one guide – he is asking for Rs.1500 for guide and Rs.1400 for 2 porters excluding food(per day ). It seems cost is too high.

## In October the end of Season, most of porters from nepal, so in end can't find the poerters from Gangotri, guide will be possible, batter concern from Ur guide who will be go with you he can manage for you all.

Dear Abhishek

Thank you so much for the great assurance that Itinerary looks good.

Its amazing if we can get the permit online then I will stay at Harshil (instead of UttarKashi). Nice to know that they are mulling over the online option.
Hope others can help me to provide a good guide so that I can refer the name to get a real good deal.

Regards, Samir

Guide n porter rates seem to be ok. I paid 1400 per day to one guide cum porter in 2014.
There is a gmvn next to the jeep stand in rishikesh, you can book online (check the room rates).

Hi Rajat

Thanks for the information. Will you be able to share me the guide name and contact details ? Please.

Nice to know GMVN is just located beside the stand.

Have a good day!

The GMVN accommodation name is Bharat Bhumi/ Bharat Bhoomi.
They offer good discount for single occupancy/ single tourists.
My guide cum porter was not so good. So didn't store his phone number.
Mr. Bhim is a well behaved guide. You can talk to him. Many IMers mentioned his number in old threads.

[One personal suggestion: Apart from the usual donation at Tapovan ashrams, if you could hand carry some food packets of rice, dal, spices, salt, sugar etc. (small quantity is enough), some general purpose medicines like gelusil/digene/ crocin/ paracetamol/ borolin/ neosporin/ general purpose ointments/ pain balms- it helps their logistics.]

Dear Rajat, Its a nice piece of advise. We must carry the same for MauniBaba (anyway porter will be there). Let me check Bhim's no from other thread.

Dear Abhishek, I believe Sandeep is based out of Gangotri who facilitates the same - I feel if we can touch base directly with guide we can get good bargain.

Gangotri-Harshil-Kaudiyala in 1 day is going to be tough. Unless you hire your own car.

It's a regular govt office - closed on 2nd Saturdays and Sundays.

However in Oct you won't have a problem getting the permit at Gangotri itself. There you can get the permit on weekends as well.
