Need Advice about Dhanaulti
Hi All,
We are a group of 8 engineering students from Lucknow. We are going to IIT Roorkee to attend a Cultural Fest on 1st November(or can say going to enjoy Jal-The Band concert ). Before that we have planned to go for short trip to Dehradoon, Mussoorie and Dhanaulti. We will reach Roorkee (by train) on 29th Oct 2009 morning (ticket shows 6.28am as arrival time and yes tickets are done ). Our itinerary is as follows:29th Oct : Arrival Roorkee. Catch Bus/Shared Cab to Dhanaulti, direct or via mussoorie whichever available. Check in into hotel/guesthouse at Dhanaulti. Roam around. Walk and then night stay in Dhanaulti. 30th Oct : Wake up early morning (5am or so) go for walk/hike to get priceless views of Himalayas. Back to hotel soon. Pack and move to Mussoorie by 7am. Chek in to hotel. Go for local sightseeing. Visit Sister's Bazaar/Mall/Library in evening.Back to hotel all tired and have nice sleep .31st Oct. : Wake up early morning. Leave for Dehradoon. Reach Dehradoon by 9am or so. Visit local places. Clement Town, Robber's Cave, Srahastradhara etc..In evening, shopping and bazaar visit. More tired, more nice sleep 1st Nov. : Visit the left over places in Dehradoon. Leave for Roorkee by 12 noon. Attend Concert there and catch train back to Lucknow next morning. Now I have following queries: * What are places of Interest in Dhanaulti?? * Please suggest stay options in Dhanaulti. Our budget is Rs 600-800 per room (3-4 persons /room). * Please suggest the stay options in Mussoorie and Dehradoon also. Our budget is same as above. *Are there any places to visit in between our way from Mussoorie to Dehradoon (I have heard of Srahastradhara being there on Rajpur Road.. Is it in our way back to Dehradoon??) *Are there any places of interest between our way from Dehradoon to Roorkee so that we can break our journey there and visit ?? *Can We get Bus Back to Roorkee from Clement Town Bus Stand?? Please suggest and answer my queries.I shall be thankful to IMers for their response and promise to post picture once I am back. Please help me out !! |

Dhanaulti as such has no points, it is just a beautiful place in the mountains, For Surkanada Devi trek you need to take a local jeep to Kaddu Khal and then trek, it is a nice trek and from there you get very good mountain views

Priceless Inputs...
Dhanaulti is a lovely place...
The one "View Point" in Dhanaulti is reached two ways... One through the Eco Park which is located right adjacent to the GMVN Guest House... You need to pay to enter the Eco Park, mind you...! (There is a second Eco Park in Dhanaulti too, a bit further from the GMVN - towards Mussoorie) Assuming you are staying anywhere in the small cluster of hotels near GMVN, you can walk down the road for about a kilometer... From this point, there is a "U" turn - right upwards on a dense wide pathway - while the road carries on... Take this pathway, and very soon you'll reach the beautiful View Point... There is no charge - its free...! You get to see not just the majestic Himalayan peaks carrying on & on towards the North-East, but also, believe it or not, Dehradun city and the plains, on the other side...! The View Point area is actually the private property of a well-known Pharmaceutical company... They have several greenhouses here, which I found to be a major attraction by themselves... Among other herbs, they also grow Rosemary, Stevia & Lavender here...! I was there in Dhanaulti for around 24 hours and managed to visit the View Point twice, once late afternoon, and for the sunrise the next morning, and also managed a trip to the top of Surkhanda Devi at almost 10000 feet...! Not sure if this information reaches the person who started this thread on time; but then, it sure might help all others... Cheers...! |
