First, note that the Badrinath temple will close for the winter on the 27th October, ten days after Diwali. You are planning to go there before that date, but it is better to keep that in mind and avoid major delays in your schedule.

Because it'd be the very end of the pilgrim season, many hotels would and shops would have started closing down for the winter. In any case the GMVN hotels will be open until the temple closes.

The weather will be cold, but it is likely to be very clear. You will most probably get wonderful views of Nilkanth and other mountains. Take plenty of warm clothes. Go slowly from the plains. Take a break at Joshimath, and spend a day there. It will give you all a chance to rest and look around. (Again, the views from Joshimath will be very clear and beautiful. You can take the ropeway to Auli in the morning to see the mountains.)

If your parents don't need any special medical attention, everything should be fine. However, keep in mind that there are no serious medical facilities once you get onto NH 58, even in towns like Joshimath, and decide accordingly. Don't listen to people who, without much experience, advise you not to go on your trip. It isn't a difficult journey, and every year hundreds of thousands of people of all ages make it. I am sure it will be a wonderful experience for you and your parents.

Have seen many members recommending Skylark adventure tours (google for it) for car rental services. The company is based out of Haridwar and is regarded as one of the cheapest options by some of our members.

A Tata Indica can also do, if you guys are not too bulky. I have done it myself.

Rate should be 1600-1800 per day.

Haridwar to Badrinath you can see:

Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag,Karnprayag, Nandprayag, Joshimath, Vishnuprayag, pandukeshar.

The other way to Haridwar is via Kotdwar. But that'll be long !
