Oh I missed it Piyush. but Quity is a small village with wonderful hill/valley view. I captured one in Feb'08 the day after heavy snowfall. It is there in my gallery, Mousourik.

Just going through the queries of Dipanjan in this thread. Actually I am very much in love with Kumaon beauties. I have seen both the areas of your choice. Still what comes to my mind is that:
Binsar, Chaukori,Munsiary are less populated. In fact Binsar and Chaukori has little. The forest, the roads with pines alongside and aboveall the himalayan peaks will compell you to go there a number of times. The weather in those region is extremely unpredictable even in last week of October. You may/may not be able to enjoy the beauty of peaks and it depends on your luck. The best thing can be done is to keep track about the weather, once the rain is over, go and enjoy, but I know this can not be possible for a traveller with family members.
Shimla is conjested, Manali is slightly less than that. But again they have their own beauties, perhaps can not be compared with words.

Shyamalda,
yes, there was a photo taken at quitty in your gallery, but perhaps you missed the waterfall that i found in Almoraboy's blog.
btw, in one of my earlier photos posted in im on murshidabad, you commented that you were born and brought up somewhere nearby. what's that place ?

Oh absolutely i dont mind at all!! Thats the fun of threads Shyamalda will agree what 'adda' means to us, what is the range of topics that come up in adda over cha.
I have covered the garhwal region well, not the Kumaon though.... therefore it looks quite tempting... already had a word with KMVN office at ahmedabad.....
Almoraboys 'photolougue' was great, the road upto munsiyari reminded me of a remote place in arunachal.... Diwang.... a wonderful forested hill with 2 rivers, 1 from tibet and 1 from bhutan confluencing there.....

Oh Dipanjan, u touched a very tender spot of mine. So many times i planned to go to arunachal, but ultimately couldn't make it for lack of partners. lemme see if it's possible in 2009.
and, i've never been to garhwal, so may not be the right person to comment. but kumayon is definitely very beautiful. birthi, munsyari - i'd love to go there again and again ....
it's my personal opinion - instead of manali, shimla, nainital it's better to choose other destinations in the himalayas. in the former three places, u'll find one species aplenty - homo sapiens. if u already have enough of it in ahmedabad, better go to other destinations.

Hotels (like kumzam, HPTDC) in the mall road gives better views or hotels in the loghuts or hidamba devi road would be better? any specific suggestion for lodging in manali?
Himachal has many nice hill-stations, but Manali is not one of them, on account of it being a 'valley-station' . Manali is nice, but from there you see only minor peaks. And I would avoid it at Diwali time, Kumaon will be better.

Altho it CAN rain, you wud have to be unlucky in Oct not to get clear days in Kumaon/UA. It is generally considered the best month for clear skies.

It must look a lot better on-screen than live.
I went to Munsyari and back in the monsoon last year and I don't remember a waterfall at Kwiti. But since Piyush says it's there, it must be. Point is, it can't be as impressive as Birthi.
You wud have passed thru Kwiti shortly before reaching Tejam, when you went from Munsyari to Thal.
