Planing to visit 10-12 April from Delhi

Hi,
I am planning to visit Lansdowne with my parents & wife in next weekend (April 10-12). My plan is as follows -

1. April 9 - Delhi to Lansdowne ( Mussoorie Exp.)
2. April 10, 11 - Stay at Lansdowne (Sightseeing)
3. April 12 - Back to Delhi (Mussoorie Exp.)
Now I have some queries if anyone can help -

1. Is it a good decision to visit Lansdowne instead of Mussoorie?
2. As on April 12, train is in night I have day to spare. What is the best use of that day?
3. I am planning to stay at GMVN, is it right decision?
4. From Kotdwar to Lansdowne, how much taxi will charge?
5. What type of clothes we have to carry on at this time?

Thanks in advance.

Deependra

Given a choice, I would choose Lansdowne everytime over Mussoorie, but then I like laid back, rustic places and prefer natures work rahter than crowded shop filled streets, am more comfortable in a Dhaba than a fancy restaurant!

Might not be good, but is definitely not bad..!! Landsdowne has it's own charm: It is peaceful, clean etc etc.

The location was nice for GMVN... But I liked another one named (something like) Fairydale...

Thanks puchoo, smakkar, livinhimalayas for your quick response. I also want to go to a peaceful place that's why chosen Lansdowne. But I think I will not be able to go this time there because GMVN and Fairy Dale both are full for my dates as I have inquired.
GMVN tip-in-top is available but I don't think it will be good for my parents to travel 3 kms up-down from market.

Thanks.

Cars can go right up till Tippin Top, so do not worry about walking this distance... I think Transport will be available from the main bus stand. Others, please confirm...

And the views form this one would be even better, assuming the clouds are not there and you can get up early..!!

I understand about the transport but for three days we have to come down to visit the town and then go back upto hill. Apart from that I did not found much information on internet about the tiffin top guest house.
I think they have huts only not the rooms? Can anybody help?

When I have tried to book the guest house online error is coming on site. I have mailed them about this but could not get any response so far. Strange thing is that error is coming only while booking tiffin top guest house for others it is working.

Solanki

I will also be there in lansdown during the same period.Infact i am also staying at GMVN with my family and plan to go for camping out for one night.

Agree lansdowne is a small & quite place and that is the reason for us to choose such a destination.

Well can anyone suggest me a quite & safe spot for camping near lansdown, not very far, as i would like to train my kids and basically enjoy a night in our new camping gear.

cheers

Hi there is another guest house right by the taxi stand. It is a guest house, forgotten the name. The owner also runs a restaurant there, which is the most popular eatery in Lansdowne. He also rents out rooms in his house which is a short drive away from the main circle. I wish I could give you his number, but I am afraid I have lost it. In case they are also booked (highly unlikely as he has a number of rooms both in the guest house and the house, you could always drive on to Tifffin Top or beyond.

That is it! Hotel Mayur! It is neat and clean, specially the rooms that we saw. I liked the rooms that he lets out at his place, very nicely appointed rooms, he had three there at his property and was planning to add more, must have done it now since the last time I was there was 3 years ago.

I thought you might have mixed up Mayur with Fairydale, whose manager also owns a restaurant in the bazar (the interestingly named 'Tipseey' ), but I see you do mean Mayur. What has my attention is the news of rooms at the owner's house. What is the tariff like?
And can you describe how to get there from the bazar? Anywhere near GMVN or Fairydale?

The photos on the website are misleading. Certainly the restaurant was a lot less salubrious than the photo suggests (unless that's 'at home').
