driftingdreams,
In Pauri you can go to Kandoliya(nice sunset point)& from there itself you can have a nice view of whole Gagwarsyun region. After visiting Kandoliy Mandir, you can see Raansi Field, further walk up you can see Kyunkleswar Temple(Nice place to be) Freh air completly solitude. Manmohan |

I stayed at Blue pine resort and was having conversation in evening with one of the worker and he asked me have you visited Snow view point of Hotel, I was shocked to see a point in Hotel premise where I saw this marvelous scene. Hotel is quite down from Lansdown, I think there is one Snowview point maintained by SBI near Museum |

Been there done that,...
Courtesy this article, now I too fall in the category of Been there, done that...
Went on 11th morning, back on 12th night... So just a 2 day trip, but really enjoyed the calmness and beauty of the place... The Bijnore - Najibabad route is amazingly fast, much better than the Haridwar route... |

Khal is Garhwali for a valley and Dhar is a ridge. Good account of Lansdowne and all its ESP's.

More precise... khaal in Garhwali is used for a mountain pass. These are the places near the top of mountain which are used by people to move to other side of the mountain.

Thanks for the correction. The guy who told me that described it as a valley. I am glad to know the real meaning.

Huhuh (nervous laugh) - yes, I almost fell off my chair when I read #97 in my email, and shocked to read the explanation now at #99. That guy is certainly not a pahari.
'Khal' is a pass as rawat says, and in some parts of Garhwal also used to signify a saddle. 'Dhar' is a ridge, and also sometimes used to signify a saddle! |

Hi Puneet, I was there in Feb 2008 and it was not too cold but take into account that I am used to Delhi winters. It was quite green too. The days were bright and sunny but nights do tend to get quite cold but not unbearable.

I'm planning to visit Lansdowne (just two of us - me n my wife) during October this year... and would be really grateful if I can get some details on the following -
1. I'll be travelling from Kolkata. As far as I know, I have two options - either stop over at Dehradun, and move on to Lansdowne from there, or stop over at Delhi, and then proceed towards Lansdowne. Which among these will be the better option (time saving too - since Delhi is connected by Rajdhani & Dehradun is not)? 2. Is October the proper time to visit Lansdowne - I mean the weather etc will be fine there? 3. I'm planning to stay there at the GMVN tourist lodge. Again, is it a good option - or I'll get better choices? Sorry to bother u guys with such a long and cumbersome query! |

If you find this train too slow, look for other trains to Najibabad and get off there. You will get plenty of transport to Kotdwara. Basically what you can do is check the total travel time from Cal to Kotdwara via Najibabad (1 hour by road NBD-KTW), and compare with via Delhi/Rajdhani. 2) Yes, excellent weather. 3) Yes. There are also private hotels/resorts which will cost more. Check for other threads with 'Lansdowne' in title for more info. |
