I suggest, go a little up and stay at Dhanolti. Very quiet and more scenic. Lots of nice cheap resorts around. I stayed in some Apple orchard or something. You will see quiet a few good ones actually.

Hotel Padmini Nivas has singles for Rs.950/- with a 50% discount till April 20. This should suit you if you are planning to visit before this date.

We have stayed a few times ( in winter season) at the Valley View Hotel, above the Mall and close to the Main Post Office.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, with TV and attached bathroom, the food pretty good and the price should be within your range, though maybe not in the main season.

Here are the details

Hotel Valley View Hotel
Address The Mall, Mussoorie 248 179, India
Phone and Fax +(91)-(135)-632324/632211
Profile Hotel located besides the trolley car , rooms with kitchen , coffee shop etc.

EDIT
After seeing Shimla's phone numbers below it look like the phone numbers above should be 0135 - 2632324/2632211
What a long strange trip it's been!

Hi Lonelyazte,

Hotel JP Residency Manor is the best hotel in Mussorie. It is also the closeset to Dehradun. Tariff would be between Rs. 3000 - 4000. Other options are Hotel Honeymoon Inn which is closer to the Mussorie Bazaar. For more details, you can check out: http://www.tourism-of-india.com/hote...mussoorie.html.

Regards

Hi

There are several hotels in Mussoorie offering acc in Mussoorie around 500 INR.
As this is peak season you may find it difficult to find somethinga round but check out the following options I'm Giving you.

Hotel Evergreen Near Big Bend
Hotel Luxmount - Mall Road Near Ropeway
Hotel Mall Palace - Near Ropeway
Hotel Khyayamm - Near Fire Station
Hotel City Caste Guest House - Near Clock Tower, I ALWAYS STAY HERE
Hotel Emerald Heights - Camel's Back Road
Hotel Uday - Camel's Back Road
Hotel Mount Pleasant View - Ahead of Hotel Poornima Near Clock Tower - Awesome View

You can always Bargain - Always ask for 200 INR Less to whatever they say and most of the times they agree.
If you want something specific, Lemme know.
