The Ranikhet express is a better bet, but it leaves at 9pm |

Anything in late night after 11 PM
Thank you folks for your superfast response..
I am flying from Bangalore in the evening and have booked my tickets in Ranikhet Express. But offlate I have seen evening flights getting late by 3 -4 hours due to fog. So, I am just worried what are the available options in case I miss the Ranikhet Express which leaves at 10:20PM now from Old Delhi. Are there any very late night or midnight private buses? or shared jeeps/Qualis?? And where do I get them from?? If there is notthing availale at late night, then I will be left for the whole night. |

Buses won't start that late. And I am not aware of any shared qualis/taxi from delhi to almora/nainital. Only option is private taxi, expensive.

Any intermediate point
Ok.. So I get it that private taxis are the only option to reach Nainital in case I land in Delhi late at night.. So, this is very expensive and I amy not take it.
But are there intermediate places enroute Nainital where I can reach at night and then take a early morning bus to Nainital?? |

Not really, jyotipg. You could try and see if there is any train late night which goes upto Rudrapur, but i don't think so.

Hi Jyoti,
The train is the best option. However, flights might get delayed. It happened with me once. In such a case, do the following: 1). Just before leaving the airport, on the left hand side of the exit door, there is a small counter for booking pre paid taxis (under the supervision of Delhi Police). Book a taxi from airport to Anand Vihar ISBT. Outside, you will find a small police desk (with 1 or 2 cops) sitting next to the road. There will be a row of taxis. Show those cops your slip and they will tell you to take the first available taxi in the queue. Then you just give the cops your name and destination (ISBT). They will also note down the number of the taxi. All this is for your safety. 2). The taxi wallah will drop you till the main gate of the ISBT. Now you have to go inside the ISBT to the stand where the buses for Uttaranchal leave. There will be buses for Kathgodam, Haldwani, Nainital, Almora, etc. There will be many private bus operators near the gate of the ISBT. Please, DO NOT go with them. Their buses are usually parked across the road or in a small open field near the ISBT. They will try to lure you by saying that we will take a shortcut, or we are just about to leave, only 2 seats left, as soon as u come, we will immediately leave, we are a non-stop service right upto whereevr you want to go, we will give you window seats, etc, etc. Do not get into their talks. These buses are highly unreliable. They will not leave until they have stuffed them full of passengers. They will also pick up local [passengers. If they do not get a complete load, then they might not even go all the way to Kathgodam. So private buses are a strict NO NO (more so, if you are worried about time). 3). There will be lots of govt buses in the Uttaranchal shed. Just take any bus from there. These guys travel strictly on time. If you are lucky, you might find an AC/Deluxe bus run by the government. Otherwise, you can take a normal bus with a normal seat. Last time I had taken a government bus at around 10 pm in the nigth. I had reached the Haldwani thana by around 5 am the next morning. 4). When you reach Kathgodam/Haldwani, you can take any taxi/jeep which will be leaving for Almora/Nainital. they are at many places like the Kathgodam and Haldwani railway stations and bus stops. If you want a private taxi (fully for urself) from Haldwani/Kathgodam, then I know of a taxi driver in that area. Taxis are faster than the buses in the hills. So it is always better to switch over to a taxi from Kathgodam.

one more thing...
i think the cost from kathgodam to almora, for a taxi, will be Rs. 90 or Rs. 80 (for one person). Have a rocking time in Heaven ![]() ![]() |

well, i have taken a bus at 10 pm..a govt bus from inside the isbt. but there were other govt buses also ready to depart at a later time.
and i have taken a bus from outside the isbt..the private bus. i boarded it ataround 10 pm, with those bus wallahs saying that they will leave in 5-10 mins, but they left well after 11...coz they were waiting to fill each and every seat..including the ones next to the driver. |
