Why not ! UTC has some very good buses on this route and the road is excellent.

Yes, Indeed. We had a tough time finding the accommodation without booking. The state owned tourist department offers booking at http://www.gmvnl.com and there are just a few more places worth booking. There is Anand Retreat (Away from main areas) , Fairydale resort, Bluepine Resort, One run by Ex-Army Mr. Rawat and a couple of places in main market. Post here for any more info. I can check the rates from some of my notes and put them here. I also have contact details of a few, nut will need to dig through the mails etc.

hi vatsala

yeah, it is suggested to book the room in advance, u don't have so many choices there. "Oak grove Inn" is the best i suppose, run by Colonel Rawat. The single room for 2 is for rs. 1700 for a day (12 noon to 12 noon). but that was a peak season, i dont know the off season rates. Lansdowne is a good green and clean place, very much maintained and very small place.a good weekend destination. but do not expect much, it dont have scenic beauty like manali or nainital, but its worth going.

Lansdowne and Tarkeshwar trip

Guys returned from Lansdowne yesterday...

Some updated facts about the route - Meerut - Bijnore - Kiratpur - Najibabad - Kotdwar - Dugadda - Lansdowne

Meerut byepass I don't know. So, had to cross through town via Begum bridge. Going was fine as it was early morning. Returning was hell thru meerut traffic.

Meerut-Bijnore 30 km of the road is amazingly beautiful but my friend didn't allow me to enjoy the beauty as he was cruising at 120+.

3 kms before Najibabad u have to take a diversion along canal and u can hardly travel this section in 3rd gear.

Lansdowne - Tarkeshwar is very good apart from last 5 kms. Work has started and it will be fine in 2 months time. I gave a lift to Tarkeshwar Mandir Samiti Chairman as he was to meet Mr. Khaduri (CM) and these are the words straight from him. So, no more tensions while travelling to tarkeshwar.

I took a 2001 model Maruti 800 non ac, which kept well even during incessant rains on the stretches considered dreadful - Tarkeshwar (last 5 kms) and Lansdowne to my resort (Anand Retreat - Jungle Resort). But believe me, its not so dreadful.

Some misconceptions on the internet - Avoid Anand Retreat - The jungle resort.
My view - People usually go to hill stations in summers and Lansdowne is very short on water during summers. Hence, You won't get water in the swimming pool of this resort and they will supply you buckets (2) of water for daily use. Mosquitoes and flies are more of a problem in summers here than monsoon. Strange.. huh.
If u love idyllic sort of place, jungle resort is the place to be, and it is safe as well. I paid 1800 for a day, and thought it was worth for a day well spent in pin drop silence and a pool among pines was icing on the cake.

I will go again soon and spent my time only there ....

Next visit to Khirsu on 2nd oct weekend ...

Nice updates from Kunal... thnx ..

Well, I was there this month, Sept 2009... excellent place to visit, if you dont want to just hurriedly cover a few "view points" and call your trip a great one...

At Lansdowne, my advice will be to just enjoy your aimless walk on the mountains....and the absolutely well maintained town by Garhwal Regiment....
