Hi I am planning a visit Landour next weekend with my wife and 7-year daughter. We will staying only for a night on Saturday and Sunday full day. Can you suggest a clean budget place to stay?

I would also like to know if I can get a shared jeep or taxi (the way the locals may travel) from Dehradun to Mussorie, and from Mussorie to Landour

regards,
sarkar

There really aren't any budget places in Landour, so to speak. You can check the rates at Kilmarnock though, contact no. here:

Share taxis are available from Dehradun RS to Mussoorie, Rs. 140 per seat. Make sure you board one going to the Picture Palace side. From there you can get a local taxi (not sharing), which will charge Rs. 200-250 depending on your destination.

Landour

thanks for your reply earlier. I am going for the first time, and all this research is just to avoid any nasty surprises. I have a few more questions. Grateful if you can spare 5 more mins.

1) Will the cab drop us at Picture Palace, or goes beyond that point? will I get a cab from Picture Palace for Landour?

2) How uphill is the 2.5-km walk from Picture Palace, 5km from Lib? We are not terribly fit people, with a 7-year daughter

3) We prefer an offbeat, scenic place than a staying near a market. This time I am looking for a budget acco. Would you recommend me Woodside over Wolfsburn? Or, are their other places that would better that these two - Dolna's Inn, Inda Cottage, See Forth Lodge, Snow view, or any other place?

1) As mentioned, the cab from Dehradun will take you to Picture Palace (bus stand) only. The local taxi stand is right there, you'll have to hire another cab to go up.

2) To get to the Landour area, just forget about the Library side as a good option. That leaves walking up from PP - not a good idea with luggage and kid in tow. I've done this as a slow walk a few times, but that's while being in the town, not on arrival or departure. Take my advice, use a cab for arr and dep.

3) All more or less the same. Just take the one with the best rates. Woodside is a few hundred metres off-road.
