I should add I tried to read the 'Teachers' Stories' but utterly failed to open after 5 mins. so I gave up. If they are like the descriptions the writer has given them then I don't think I have missed anything!
Every cloud has a silver lining!
If someone decides not to go to LLS after looking at that stupid, puerile, and obviously extremely biased website, then god help them. Although LLS has no shortage of students-- so it's not like they need your business anyway. I thought that site was absolutely vile (not to mention unfunny). If you didn't like the school, fine, but why resort to juvenile personal attacks against the teachers, who are overworked, underpaid, and extremely kind and patient people? I can't imagine what kind of disgruntled psycho is behind that website. If it's you, Merry, then shame on you.
I spent 5 weeks studying at LLS, and while I had my share of small annoyances I thought it was a great experience, and I learned a great deal. If the author of this website didn't learn anything, then it's probably his or her own fault. Maybe s/he should have spent all the time and energy it took to make that lame website studying...

Oh, and Mr. Datt, greedy?
After five weeks at Landour I still hadn't settled my bill, and even though I could have run off at any time they totally trusted me to pay. The day before I left, I came in with a big stack of bills and started to count them out and show Mr. Datt where I had written down all of my hours of classes, but he said, "no, no, I trust you."
Calling Archana Sharma a prostitute? Nice. Saying Kumud looks like a monkey? Gee, hilarious. And that nutty, vitriolic manifesto about Yusuf and Islam... WTF? The author sounds like a bigot-- and an idiot, to boot. S/he needs to get a life!

Hmm, I'm relieved to hear that site is just slander. I didn't bother to open the pages as they were in pdf, but just the titles on the home page were, let's say, cause for concern. I don't know any of the teachers (can't even identify them as such), and have only a nodding acquaintance with the princi - for obvious reasons I have no direct use for LLS. But being in L C a few times a year, I think I wud have heard of something like this by now - it really is too small to hide such stuff.
But if the link ad stayed, someone cud have infoed Google of its existence - I doubt their policies wud allow for it.

Aren't I happy that I was at the language school in the autumn!
New edition of the school book, Introductory Hindi Course: 2000 INR
(I paid 1350 INR for the old edition - it's also possible to borrow a book, or at least, was).
Private classes: 275 INR / class
(I paid 200 INR/class.)

Hope the teachers will be paid more too. The school has become more and more well known, and even in November-December it was busy!
The school has updated its web page, including fees for the year 2008, should anybody be interested THIS year.

The school opens on February 11.
Landour is a lovely place, is my opinion - was the perfect place for studying Hindi for me.

The idea would be to join a class with 2 other students, wouldn't it? At 175 rupees, this would be cheaper. It's getting quite expensive really, but if you are full-time studying and doing all your homework etc. it would certainly accelerate you through into learning speaking, writing and reading of Hindi. Unlike me, I have only had one month's formal lessons with an hour lesson every third day, then learning by myself whenever I have time to myself. This boils down to my stay in the mountains in the hot time, around 6 weeks. It's certainly 'cheaper' but not as effective as this school would provide.
Will you be back ploink? I'm booked for a month in June at Wolfsburn.

Up-to-date Landour info
Hi,
I know this has been discussed ad nauseum but i was wondering whether anyone had some up-to-date information on and contact details for budget accomodation near Landour Language School. I'm aiming to start there week beginning 12th May; can you just turn up and find a place to stay or should I be booking ahead?
Any other advice would be gratefully received,
Thanks

Yes, definitely book your accommodation - if you look through this thread you can find a no. of choices. Anyone going to Landour..here Also look at the website for Landour Language School - do a google and you'll find it.
Cool,
Yeah the Landour website's been a bit temperamental for me but i've found it now.. Does anyone know the price range for accommodation? So far I've been offered 300rp/night plus extra for electricity? Is cheaper lodging possible? Any recommendations?

I think 300 rupees per night is about the best you can get - I'm paying more than that for accommodation in Wolfsburn. Haven't come across anything cheaper - also, it depends on the months you are there. The most expensive time is May and June.
I am attending Landour Language School at the moment and think it is very good. One can take how manu lessons as one want per day and pay per lesson INR 275. It is one-to-one lessons.
