Just for starters:

Drive slowly
No overtaking on bends
Uphill traffic has right of way.
Avoid meeting traffic on bends if you can.
Honk at every blind turn.
Do not play chicken.
When tired, stop.
Never switch off ignition and coast downhill
Never go downhill in neutral
Remember the alamo! (handbrake), can save your life.

Next day 18th from Agra i plan to take the Aligarh - Moradabad - Haldwani route. This route is a bit longer than the Bareilly route we discussed. But its NH93 all the way and came to know that its the best route for Haldwani.

Minor point: Moradabad-Rampur is NH 24, Rampur-Tanda Mor is NH 87, Tanda Mor-Haldwani is SH 61.

Got to get my car serviced before that......Engine oil change, brakes, tyres, coolants, battery and other routine checks.

Following things in the boot... Puncture repair kit (tubeless tyres), jack, spanner, tow rope, footpump, jumpstart cables...

Anything else i need to keep..???
Unless your car is due for service anyway or wud be during the trip, don't bother. Better to get it done after the trip, I prefer that as any nuts and bolts that may have loosened during the trip can be done at the same time.

Dilli...you had suggested two routes from Munsyari to jageshwar..
one through Barechina and another through Rameshwar. Which one of them is better interms of road condirions...?? This will be longest single day stretch in the hills..

rep back pls...
Both are fine, depends what you want to see. I wud take the Rameshwar route myself, since I haven't done it yet, but the Seraghat/Barechhina one is a bit shorter.

Hi! guys...

Almoraboy :

Will start posting from monday. Didn't even find time to load the snaps on computer. I shoot RAW so it takes time for me to process them...

Spicetrekker :

Oh boy ...the "exceptions" were certainly very true. An outside number plate vehicle is the most humble creature on roads..

Captain and Dilli :

you guys are sadistic... When i was climbing Girgaon to Kalamuni ...my wife could,nt believe that i had brought my vehicle to drive in this section.. And i was remembring the
naughty smiley which Dilliwala and Piyush used to use when they talked about this section..
Missus was happy and did come back with me....but said " never again".. But the Kalamuni section wasn't the reason for it...many things happened in the route which litrally changed a nice drive into a full blown adventurous motocross...!!!

Thanks

On May 17th 2008 I started on a road journey from Bhopal, heading for the Himalayas. A journey which would take me through the Sun baked lands of Madhya Pradesh, through the ravines of Chambal, on the "killing field roads" on gangetic plains of Uttar Pradesh, to the magical land of Kumaon. A journey of about 3000 Kms which I will cherish for the rest of my life.
The Inspiration for the road trip came from fellow Imer's Sir KS Bluechip's thread "GHRT". And egged on by fellow Imers I decided to do my own SKRT ( Small Kumaon Road Trip ) .
Here I would like to thank all the Imers who helped me in planning this trip. Also to those who have penned down truck loads of information in different threads.
Dilliwala, Piyush, Shayamlalji, Captain,Ronak, Pochoo, Ananda, Almoraboy and others....Thanks guys. Your advice, tips have been spot on. I am overwhelmed by the effort you guys have put in answering my querries.....truly great . And what an amazing forum....keeping rocking guys....

Many Thanks...

PS : Trip report coming...

Dilbert's Principle

"If anything would go wrong it will go at most difficult time."

Couple of days before the trip workload in office increased suddenly. Some unforseen issues leading to long evenings at workplace. Happens most of the time with me. Finding time for preparations was getting difficult. Still I managed to tick one by one the things which I had planned to take. Some i forgot which later on i thought should have brought.
Whenever we go on a trip either my wife or my daughter will start falling sick. Then a rush to the doctor to get a quick fix. For this emergency situation i had kept my train tickets till the last two days. I saw my wife and kid both were fine. Went ahead and cancelled the tickets.
Next morning, a day before we start I found myself down with a throat infecton. It wasn't that bad, thought I would manage it. Tomorrow was the D day and planned to sleep early. But as usual last minute preparations are always there and could only manage to go to bed by 11:30.
