Frankly I agree with Ronak and ananda (in combination) - Day 7 - Munsyari-Patal Bhubaneshwar (KMVN). Leave Pithoragarh for next time. |

Though I have not visited Pithoragarh still it came to my mind to skip it. EOS you may think of leaving Pithoragarh this time as suggested by Dilliwala, Ronak and others. Instead you may think of including Binsar.

Hi! guys..
sorry for not responding earlier....i was out of station for a couple of days sue to some emergencey... Ronak Thanks for the great tip on homestay at Chaukri.. Trishul & Piyush OK ..so i can think of doing jageshwar on the way back.. Ananda & Dilliwala Thanks for the suggestion on Patal Bhubaneshwar...will think about that.... or as suggested by shyamlalji i do jageshwar enroute to Kausani on day 1. On day 7 i stay at Munsyari itself. On day 8 i come back straight from Munsyari to haldwani and skip pithoragarh.. i think that will involve about 8-10 hrs of driving from Munsyari to Haldwani..?? doable i think... How is patal Bhubaneshwar as a place..?? Thanks guys for you fantastic suggestions....waiting for more EOS |

Nothing against an extra day at Munsyari, EOS, but it will become a long haul the next day. U still have more travelling to do from Haldwani too, even if it's by train.
PB was suggested as a break-journey, plus (from my side) for the quiet surroundings and for being more on-route than Pithoragarh. Myself I'm not keen on cave-crawling! And this will leave u enough time to visit Jageshwar the next day on the way to Haldwani. Oh, I just thought of something - u cud also skip PB and go Munsyari-Jagehwar on the regular route, via Seraghat/Barechhina and stay the night in Jageshwar. Since Shyamal has suggested Chitai, u cud stop by there next day on way to Haldwani, it'll be directly on your route. |

...So if i skip pithoragarh and stay the night at jageshwar then i think it pretty much solves all the issues... one more querry in this regard how much time from Munsyari to jageshwar and from jageshwar to haldwani..?? I seem to have read in one of the threads that jageshwar is among the 12 jyotirlings...? Am i correct...?? |

EOS,
U have 2 route options: 1. Munsyari-Raiagar - 107 km Raiagar-Seraghat-Barechhina-Jageshwar - 88 km Total 195 km, 6 to 6.5 hours driving. 2. Munsyari-Raiagar - 107 km Raiagar-Gangolihat-Rameshwar-Jageshwar - 98 km Total 205 km, 6.5 to 7 hours driving. This route allows u to see the sangam of the Saryu and Ramganga at Rameshwar, and a 7 km off-route to Patal B., shud u so desire. Jageshwar-Chitai - 27 km Chitai-Almora (bypass)-Haldwani - 105 km Total - 132 km, 4 hours driving. Quote:

sorry guys.... i was again out for some time. March is year ending for us and its get pretty hectic at work...
Sadanand ji....your picture says a thousand words...thank you and Ananda for enlightening me. In a new development my friend who was supposed to join me at Haldwani has backed out but i am still continuing with my plan...However after reading KSB sir's great himalyan road trip GHRT i am getting the inspiration to this trip in my own car. I have no problem in driving long distances however driving in hills will have to be seen Bhopal to Haldawani is about 850 kms. Round trip of Kumaon ex haldwani should be i think max 800 kms. Haldwani to Bhopal 850 Km. So that makes it about 2500 Km total. The more i think about it the more excited i am getting about this. However I still have to do the most difficult part of convincing my wife to do this journey by own car..!! Ok guys i am again at your door steps ringing for help.. Wanted to know whats the condition of the roads in Kumaoun should i expect for the trip i planned. waiting for your replies... thanks |

Go for it, provided you are comfortable with the idea of hill driving.
(err, what car)You could stop at Gwalior/Jhansi/Agra/Delhi unless visited before, which is very likely. Roads in Kumaon are good.. caution particularly in the Chaukori/Munsiyari areas- actually, caution after Haldwani. |

Roads are not a worry. One stretch on the way to Munsyari you need to be careful - don't look down!
![]() If this is to be your first time driving in the hills, don't overstretch yourself - take a break as often as necessary. |

Thanks for the "encouraging words " and the advise of not looking down....
I have a 4 year old Honda City (Exi) in pretty good condition. Its not a 4x4 ....but will i be needing a 4x4 anywhere in this stretch.? Also will the ground clearance of the Honda be sufficient ..?? |

Yes it will. Roads out there are usually good.
And you don't need a 4x4. An alto will do this route, and, in fact, most of the taxis running out there are indicas. |
