Kumaon- oct-nov vs dec-feb vs march-apr.

Which is the best time to visit kumaon out these 3 periods considering views and most importantly greenery- because i saw a lot of brown colored hills in many pics. What are the pros and cons of each month?

Greenery wise Oct-Nov and view wise march as many peaks are covered by snow.

beside what jitubhai said, pros & cons depends how you are going and who else is going with you.

I haven't made any specific travel plans..but i would be visiting mainly for photography purposes. Are the terraced rice fields green in the winter(jan) or are the hills mainly brown?

Paddy is the main crop in those terraced garden fields....

And for that season is September and October.... before Diwali Paddy is harvested....

Dec-Feb is a good time for photography as you get very clear views of snow clad mountains. However, late December and January you may get stuck up in snowfall specially in higher reaches of Kumaon. October-November, as has already been mentioned, would be the greenest.

Minimum temprature would be around freezing point and there is possibility of snowfall in these areas.

Thanks friend,
Had done the khalia trek last year, looking for a slightly longer one.
In terms of clothing, what do you suggest.

Keep woolens with you, you'll need them.

Rain gear too. rains in hills are pretty unpredictable.
