Hi S. Basu,
We have done vof, hemkund and badrinath with auli last year august.
All seems ok except day 1 and 3.
day 1 start from rishikesh. route to joshimath and auli is long, take much time, i doubt rope way to auli is functional after 5. driving to auli from joshimath in dark is very dangerous, may not be permitted.
day 3 start early from badrinath, if u are experienced trekker then good otherwise afternoon trek to gangharia is difficult ( not impossible) for newbies.
We did all tour with GMVN (Garhwal mandal vikas nigam limited) it was tour no 12. everything included. good service. They help for personalized itinerary too.
see for tour pics from web link below.
good luck.

ok, this was our supposed tour plan. now we have a little change in our plan. 1st we will go to Kedarnath from Haridwar ,then Badrinath, and Hemkund sahib and Valley of flowers ;then Pouri and then back to Haridwar. We have 12 days in hand. can you pls. suggest the probable itinenary so that it would not be heptic as we r going with our wives. We are reaching Haridwar on 21st Aug. can you also provide us with some information regarding the car which we are gonna take from Haridwar throughout the trip.
We (two couples) have planned to visit Howrah->Haridwar->Kedarnath->Chopta->Tunganath->Badrinath->Hemkund Sahib->Valley of the Flowers->Haridwar->Varanasi->Howrah
Our tour plan is underneath->
1st day -20.08.10->Howrah-----------------by Upasana exp. Towards Haridwar
2nd day-21.08.10->Reach Haridwar in evening and arrange for one car for the whole tour.
3rd day-22.08->Haridwar ąGaurikund (night stay)
4th day-23.08->GaurikundąKedarnath (Night stay)
5th day-24.08->KedarnathąGaurikundąChopta (Night stay)
6th day-25.08->ChoptaąTunganathąChoptaąBadri nath (Night stay)
7th day-26.08->Badrinath (After local sightseeing)ąGobindghatąGhangh aria(Night stay)
8th day-27.08->GhanghariaąHemkund SahibąGhangharia (Night stay)
9th day-28.08->GhanghariaąValley of the FlowersąGhanghariaąGobindghat (Night stay)
10th day-29.08->GobindghatąPauri (Night stay)
11th day-30.08->PauriąHrishikeshąHaridwar (Night stay)
12th day-31.08->Haridwar-------------------by Upasana exp. Towards Varanasi
13th day -01.09.10->Vishwanath Temple darshan-local tour-Arti in evening
14th day-02.09->Varanasi-------------------by Bibhuti exp. Towards Howrah
15th day->Reaching Howrah
Would that be a feasible itinerary to follow as we are having our wives with us? If not please suggest us the alternative plan to cover all places within 15days.Looking for your quick reply.

dear Mr Basu, the itinerary is doable if you all are good at walking (in hills), but do keep atleast ONE day as buffer as it will be monsoon time and landslides are common...day 9 will be a bit tiring.
on day 10 pauri is not on the route rather it can be srinagar or devprayag
rest is ok
Vof then hemkund
HI BASU
i trekked to vof and hemkund in 1992, it was my first trek and a fantastic one,
i would suggest you that you do badrinath first, then valley of flowers and the next day hemkund, because valley of flowers is at lower height and hemkund is above 12000 feet, by doing valley of flowers your body will be acclamatised for the higher altitude trek to hemkund.
have a great time
cheers

Hi Sangsaptak,
I am just giving you a itinerary just for your consideration. Hope it would be more comfortable. About vehicle, you can book a Sumo for this journey. The road from Joshimath to Badrinath is very rocky and vehicles with low chassis will have problem. My practical experience says so. Generally, Sumo rate is around 1800/- to 2000/- per day including driver and fuel. You have to bargain.
My suggested itinerary(Haridwar to Haridwar) :
Day 1: Haridwar to Gaurikund
Day 2: Gaurikund to Kedarnath
Day 3: Kedarnath to Gaurikund further move to Ukhimath.
Day 4: Ukhimath to Chopta to Tunganath back to Chopta then move to Joshimath.
Day 5: Joshimath to Govindghat to Ghangria
Day 6: Ghangria to VOF back to Ghangria
Day 7: Ghangria to Hemkund back to Ghangria
Day 8: Ghangria to Govindghat then move to Badrinath
Day 9: Badrinath (visit Mana village or Charan paduka)
Day 10: Badrinath to Rudraprayag
Day 11: Rudraprayag to Pauri
Day 12: Pauri to Haridwar
One thing I must say this tour will be a little hectic. You will have to travel more than 80 km in the whole tour. I would suggest you to take some more days in your hand and take a day rest after every trek. But if you are well accustomed with the hilly tracks it is not a issue.
You can visit my blog for more details.
Wish you a happy journey

@sayantan, any specific purpose for staying at pauri, it does not come in the route RudraPrayag to Haridwar. it may come if one plan to go to khirsu first from Rudraprayag, then khirsu to Haridwar...

Hello Tilak,You are right. The Pauri, Khirsu, Lansdown circuit is different. But Mr. Basu has a plan to visit Pauri, so I mentioned it in the itinerary. Otherwise I would prefer adding Auli in the plan leaving Pauri.
What do you say, Tilak???
Sayantan
first of all thank you tilak and sayantan both of you.
I know pauri is not en-route
but heard many time about the beauty of the place so instead srinagar I suggested my friends to stay at pauri as it is nearby srinagar.
previously in my plan auli was included but sayantan could you plz suggest me how to add auli in the same itenirary.
would that be instead joshimath we will stay at auli.is that ok?

Hello Sangsaptak,
As you said that your team members are new in trekking I would suggest you to give up some treks. If you are a religious person then leave VOF and Hemkund. But if you are a nature lover and not interested in pilgrimage then you can give up Kedarnath and Tunganath. Now, its your choise. But I would suggest you to do Kedar and Badri because this combination has a nostalgic feelings.
About cars, don't book in advance. Bargain at the spot after seeing the vehicle because the journey is long and you need a comfortable vehicle.
regards
