Thumbs up Kedarnath,Badrinath Tour

Hi everyone...I have been a regular reader of this forum but this is my first thread.I congratulate all those who are associated with this forum for their marvellous effort in trying to help out others. Before I post my queries I would like to mention here that I am a 33 yrs. old teacher from Kolkata and had to undergo a series of treatments including chemotherapy and a major surgery in the mediastinum region(thoracic). Now I am more or less alright with a few peripheral discomforts.

I am planning a Kedarnath,Badrinath Tour in September 2009...
My itenery

24/9-Arrival at Haridwar

25/9-Departure from Haridwar for Gaurikund (night halt)

26/9-Departure from Gaurikund for Kedarnath (night halt)

27/9-Departure from Kedarnath for Ukhimath Via Gaurikund (Night halt)

28/9-Departure from Ukhimath for Badrinath (night halt)

29/9-Badrinath stay

30/9-Departure from Badrinath for Syalsaur (night halt)

01/10-Syalsaur stay

02/10-Departure from Syalsaur for Haridwar.

Please comment on the above itenery, if it's O.K. or any changes needed.

My Queries:

1.Distance between two consecutive destinations.

2.Trek to Kedarnath...gradient of the trail, approximate time it takes, what time should I start the trek.

3.Vehicle from Haridwar to Haridwar....we are 8 people and want to travel comfortably..looking for Winger or Tempo Traveler.Approximate rates and contact informations of agents.

4.Any other suggestions.

Please do reply and thank you in anticipation.

Cheers.

Hi Rahul,
First of all , Hat's off to You for your spirit and mental strength.

On 28/9 , You can spend some time @Chopta, It will be on the way from Ukhimath to Josimath. Chopta is a very nice place. There You will find the picturesque wide angle view of Himalayan Peaks.
The trek to Tunganath(3.5 km X 2) starts from Chopta also.

The trek from Gaurikund to Kedar is not vey tough, Lot of options like Pony,Duli,Kandi are also available. After Rambara , the path is little steep. But You will feel nice and energised to travel with fellow pilgrims chanting "Om Namay Sivah"

One small suggesstion i have. You can think for stay @Josimath also instead of Badrinath on 28/9.

I hope you are aware of the Gate opening timings near Pandukeshar on the way to Badrinath.

There are lot of Kedarnath-Badrinath related threads, You can go through that also

Thanks
Debajyoti

Rahul,
I am not sure about their rates , But as You are travelling in end of September , so the rates will be less (compared to May-June) as it is not the peak season over there.
You will get great weather i believe.

All the best for Your trip.

Official Kandi charges are Rs. 650 for same day retun. For night halt at Kedarnath it is Rs. 840.

But sometimes kandi men ask for more...you may have to bargain...

Actually Dandi is the palki, Kandi is a wicker basket that can carry a child or luggage, I have seen older people also being carried in it, but I would hate to be travelling on a porters back in a basket hanging on a strap across his forehead.
