1) Openning date of Kedarnath & Badrinath = 4th May 2006
http://www.kedarnath.org/
2)From Delhi by car it will take 2 days . You have to stop / night halt at Hardwar / Rishikesh or any place in between rishikesh - Gaurikund depending upon how much you will be able to cover/drive in a single day.
3)You can drive up to Gaurikund & then have to trek 13km to visit Kedarnath but can drive straight up to Badrinath .

The road from Rishikesh to Joshimath is almost entriely very good..BRO have re-laid it recently...so if you are a 'enthusiastic' driver you can make it in a day. I had done Delhi-Joshimath in a day last year..started from Delhi at 4 in the morning and reached Joshimath around 5 in the evening..but its not easy.
Traffic onwards from Joshimth to Badrinath does get regulated during peak season as the road is narrow.

Badrinath is 550km (apprx) from Delhi. Now it is upto you , how much you will be able to drive in a single day. Mind it, you wont be driving in a plain land , avg. speed 30 - 35 km /hour
[ Rishikesh - Badrinath 300km (apprx) ] Important towns like Deoprayag (70 km), Shrinagar (105 km), Rudraprayag (139 km), Karnaprayag (170 km at the junction of Pindar valley), Chamoli (202 km), Joshimath (250 km), and Gobindghat (270 km) lay en route Badarinath shrine.
Joshimath - Badrinath One way traffic , may have to wait in checkpost for opening of the gate. Night travel not allowed.
This place onwards, a system of one-way traffic called 'gate system' has to be followed strictly at officially appointed times as the road ahead is slim and sleazy unsuited for two-way traffic. The first gate is at 630 hrs and the last at 1630 hrs
Yes , the road is very good no doubt , been up to Karna prayag last Oct. Work was going on .

It is dangerous to drive at night... even military vehicles don't move at night. I hope u are used to driving in the hills. The road from Joshimath to Badrinath is steep & winding.... be verycareful... I am not sure about M800's performance on very steep climbs tho.

i guess ur 800 should be able to cover it, provided its in good condition. u can drive from delhi to joshimath in one day, provided u start early to avoid traffic in UP. One of my friends goes there regularly and cover it on a m800 last year. you can pm him, his id is manik058

i agree M800 might not be a very enthu runner next to alaknanda, night traffic is not allowed between joshimath-badrinath.... however joyotida i always prefer driving in hills at night if its a known route not nothing new to see, that way i way am able to click much faster timing then i wud have i daytime, its an old rally driver trick to fix light beam parallal and then adjust as crossbeams.. that way you'd never dip into a dark corner Similar Threads
