Kanatal ?????

Probably I joined late.. But havent seen anyone talking about Kanatal. Its an awesome place where weather changes after every 2 hours.. I have seen sun, clouds & rain all in 7 hours... Highly recommended from my side..

Of course I dont buddy !! Thats why said probably I joined late. Could not find in Uttrakhand travel blogs thats why was wondering. I think I have some real good pictures of that place and should give some details soon.

Kanatal Resorts and The Terraces are surely expensive but I stayed there at camps which are very well managed and owned by some one in West Delhi, Rajouri Garden to be precise... That was 1500 per day per person including three meals and lots of adventures...

Hi there, am planning an all-girls trip to kanatal in may... just wanted to make some basic enquiries, what's it like, safety-wise etc? Also, we're planning to book ourselves at this place called RoofNRide, it's a camp-tent thing. Anyone have any clue what it's like? Just wanted to do a background check before we book. Please to be telling!

Hi,

Safety is not an issue.

I'm not aware of the name, but the website says that the camp is at Thangdhar, which is a bit away from Kanatal. Good location is all I can tell you.

Dear Dilliwala, thanks for that, no one seems to have heard of RoofNRide, think we're going to give it a miss. Any suggestions for a better place to stay in Kanatal then? Cheaper places would be the preferable. The Kanatal Terraces place is really pricey!
Just a rough outline, we're going to be driving there from Dehradun and are heading to Corbett from Kanatal. Hope to hear from you!

@ tinklej roof and ride is a camping site near kanatal or you can say few k.m from dhanolti.

i think better option will be stay at dhanolti and then visit kanatal..

If you're wanting to camp, then Whispering Pines is one in that area that has been around for years. I cannot vouch for them because I always stay in Muss when in that area, but can confirm they've been around a while and seem to be quite popular in summer. In fact when I first saw RnR's website, I thought it was WP because the tents/layout looked so similar.
Here's their site: http://www.whisperingpines.co.in/
They are at Jwarna which is also close to Kanatal (the tal itself is not much to speak of).

Closest to Kanatal is the Hermitage Resort, not as pricey as The Terraces, but certainly not cheap. I have posted the link in another thread, plus other posts/info, just do a search. One thread link shows up at the bottom of this page.

If you just want to stay in that general area, much more accom is available at Dhanolti - regular hotels including the govt-owned GMVN, plus a 'resort' or two. Normally I would say just land up there and have a look around, but since you're going in May it would be better to pre-book.
If you want something outdoorsy similar to the camps, then Apple Orchard Resort (less apple, more orchard ), set in a field below the main road, has also been around for a few years. I seem to recall them having tents before, but now they seem to have only rooms/cottages.

I may add that amongst Whispering Pines and RoofnRide and Apple Orchard I have no opinion about their quality of service, and RnR may well be good. All a matter of someone taking a plunge and testing them.

Kanatal to Corbett? Long drive!

Hey dilliwala, kanatal to corbett's a long drive i know. It's actually a trip around uttaranchal. Delhi to dehradun to kanatal to corbett to nainital to delhi. While I'm at it actually, would you care to recommend some cheap places to stay in at corbett as well? Four girls again... i understand it's going to be crazy hot in May but that's when the big cats come out, right? If you know of anyplace good in corbett, let me know pls.
thanks!

The animals come out looking for water basically, which is already the case in April.

There is nothing cheap at Corbett. Firstly, there's the "outside", all expensive private resorts, etc - getting into the park is then a twice-daily fight for very limited entry tickets. "Inside" (Dhikala, etc) is relatively cheaper, but a booking is very difficult to get - you have to start trying now and then make sure your dates don't change. Once you're inside, joining the daily excursions is no big deal.

Here's the official website for "inside"with all the relevant info, take a look:

Big Cats...

May in Corbett...???
Naaahhh...!

The big cats sleep for around 16-18 hours a day...
And when its hot, and it definitely is gonna get hotter by the day, they get even lazier, you know...!

They sleep and sleep and sleep...!
Unless they have some interesting sleeping companions (of the big cat variety), when maybe, they don't...!

The big cats might laze around the water holes, but you have to be really really lucky to see a cat or two...

And the birds are only there in the winters...

Cheers...!
